Software Systems' sound card emulation (http://www.softsystem.co.uk/page4.html) was a good but slightly costly alternative to VDM sound. I'm not sure how widely regarded the program is in the classic gaming realm because I've never been able to run anything but the demo versions of the programs (and an early, long superseded version of their product).

Unfortunately, Software Systems has found Microsoft's policies regarding Windows Vista hostile to their business model and has ceased support for their products. The distributor of SoundFX 2000, JSI, also seems to have gone out of business since I last wrote them about (potentially) buying a copy of SoundFX 2000. Drat.

I've emailed them and am waiting on a response. I'd like to see this program be made available again, even if it's only at a discount for what it had been before. Making it freeware is my goal, since they no longer provide support. Ultimately, I'd like the source to be released as well, but as companies guard their source rather jealously, it's understandable if they decide not to release it.

I'm not calling for a mass petition (yet, ha ha), but I'm hoping for ideas on how the product stacks up to others (if anybody here was lucky enough to use it during its prime), and trying to get the issue some awareness.

The last time I used SoundFX2000 was to play through Full Throttle w/ sound when VDMSound still had trouble with the game. Not sure if it was ever fixed, but since it became fully supported in SCUMMVM, it's kind of become a moot point. Man, that was a while ago.

It was a pretty slick little package, though. Sad to see it fall by the wayside.
