View Full Version : NES Duck Tales - The Hardest Disney Game Ever?

I can't get past the first stage. On easy mode. And I've been at it for an hour! I can get to the boss, but only with one energy bubble left. Seriously, do I just suck at video games or is this one freakin hard as heck?

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I seriously remember beating this game -- and I must have been around 10 at the time. So...I'm not going to say you suck. But, you might be doing something wrong. You ARE jumping on their heads with the cane, right?

Yep. Chip n Dale I beat when I was 10. Other games, like Mega Man 2, I thought were hard when I was young and now are pretty easy. However, not the case with DuckTales.

Duck Tales was challenging but I heard that the second one is even harder, so it can't be "the hardest Disney game ever." I've never played the sequel, though.

I always thought the hardest Disney game was The Lion King on the Genesis. Lots of precision jumps.

Challenging but not terribly hard. I beat it as a kid.

I have to say, and I don't want to be a jerk either, but this game is one of the easiest the NES offers. I beat it in about an hour or two as a kid. In fact, I remember playing hard mode and got every single damn coin, jewel, EVERYTHING in the whole game.

Just to be sure, is this thread serious? You're not playing Darkwing Duck, are you?

Want the hardest Disney game for NES? Try Adventures in the Magic Kingdom. Good game, but takes major dedication.

Ducktales and Adventures in the Magic Kingdom can both be beaten in under an hour with little effort. Not trying to be a jerk either, but they are very, very easy games. Play Battletoads or Ghost N Goblins, those are tough games. What are you doing wrong in Ducktales? Is there a particular part that is hanging you up?

Duck Tales isn't hard at all, especially on easy mode. It is one damn fine game tho, one of my first NES games as a kid.

I remember thinking that game was hard as a kid, but no less than a year ago I popped it in and beat it well under a hour. The game also gives you infinite continues, which just makes things all the more easy.

I beat DuckTales 2 for the Gameboy, not sure if it is the same as the Nes version but it has to be damn close. I have yet to play the first Ducktales game but i do hear it is quite easy.

My opinion of the hardest Disney game- Beauty and the Beast: Roar of the Beast.

I honestly think this is one of the easiest NES games too, I have fond memories trying to SPEEDRUN this game when I was 7 years old or so...

Aladdin and Lion King are much harder games due to lousy programming. With that i mean rather bad controllers. Duck Tales isnt that hard, you must just learn how to use the cane jump alot. When you master that, you shouldnt have too much of a problem :)

Are you supposed to do the levels in the order that theyre on the screen?

bangtango
05-16-2007, 07:31 PM
I don't remember since I haven't played it in forever but I am pretty sure you should start with Transylvania. One of the last ones you play would be the level in space. Funny enough, I think the game ends in Transylvania, too.

I couldn't beat the game for weeks because I didn't know about the pogo stick jump move.

Once I figured it out, I beat the game in less than an hour.

No, you can choose whatever levels you like :)

its recomended to start with the amazon level, although you might want to get the extra energy box in transylvania first, might make it easier for you.

I just beat Duck Tales for the first time last year, and beat the Game Boy version (which is nearly the same with some modification to the levels in order to meet the Game Boy's limitations) shortly afterwards. I probably would have been able to beat it as a kid, but I didn't own the cart and didn't get to play it that much.

I'd say the hardest Disney game (at least the hardest one I've played) is Fantasia for the Genesis. The sad thing is, it was rushed and probably could have been a lot better if the developers had more time with it.

The Lion King has some cheap moments (especially in the second level) but looks beautiful and gets better once you get the hang of it and memorize where you need to jump and where you need to duck in that second level.

Yup, they do.

Confession time:

In Cabela's Dangerous Hunts Part 1 on XBox, I can't get past the boars that charge you on Level 3 of the Action hunt mode. They come at me so fast, sort of like a cornerback heading towards the quarterback. Then I sweat and jump back from the screen. As I buckle under the pressure, I start firing recklessly and backpedal into the brush where I can no longer see anything. Then they come at me again, sometimes a couple to a time but before I can reload, one of them broadsides me. I scream out loud. Next, I spin around in a panic because I can't see which direction the other one is coming from. My hands start sweating. I put 2-3 bullets in them but those boars are so low to the ground that the shots don't do much damage. Since they charge headfirst, it is impossible for me to get a good shot off. Before I clear the screen, I am downed and being rescued by the warden. I can get through 2-3 stages, sometimes 4, but always get sent back to the first stage of Level 3 when I have to continue.

Confession is good for the soul. It is a good thing I didn't have to live off the land for survival like my forefathers.

I have no trouble hunting the bears, wolves and all other manner of soft, furry creatures in the game, though.

I guess this just may be "one of those games" for boatofcar, because I agree with almost everyone else when I say it's one of the easiest NES games I ever played.

As far as harder Disney games, I'll say Lion King... Adventures in the Magic Kingdom... lots of stuff.

As far as harder NES games, well, just about everything.

No shame though. All of us suck at one or two games that other people find easy.

Alright, I've put about 2 hours into the game now. I think I'm going to withdraw my comment about this being the hardest Disney game ever. I can't beat it yet, but I can at least get through 3 out of the 5 stages :) Seriously though, I still had to use Gamefaqs to find a hidden wall I kept missing in Transylvania and a invisible vine in the Amazon to read the boss more easily.

One thing about Lion King that always got on my nerves is the same problem that I had with Wrath of the Black Manta. For some reason, I am unable to hurt/finish off the final boss.

Don't feel bad. If this game were released on a system a few years later, you probably would have seen a strategy guide for it. I confirmed it, though. A friend of mine says the second Duck Tales game is actually much harder. I never had a chance to play it but I remember reading the same thing in Game Players when they reviewed it at the end of the NES-era.

For people who asked, the Game Boy versions of the Duck Tales games are pretty much the same as the NES games. That is one reason I've always wanted to get them, actually.

I've beaten Duck Tales wayyy to many times to count.

The one that I can't beat however.... is the Disneyland Theme Park game for the NES. That Pirates Of The Carribean level and the Haunted Mansion levels kick my ass. I don't know if I've ever beaten either of them.

The Pirates of the Carribean one is easy when you know the location of the women, the Haunted Mansion level is a bitch tho. Oddly enough the Star Wars level is the hardest for me, I always had to have my sister beat it for me when I was younger.

Regardless, all that hard work is met with a very lackluster ending.

I loved Adventures in the Magic Kingdom as a kid... it was tough at first, but with practice, each of the respective stages became easy, through a combination of memorization and reflexes.

As far as NES games go, I'd say that Mickey Mousecapade was the hardest Disney game to play through. The enemies were one thing, but having Minnie taken away from you, getting them to jump in unison, etc etc, was frustratingly tough.

I don't think ducktales 1 is that hard, once you figure out how to use the cane effectively it becomes a cakewalk. Pretty simple to find all the treasures and enough money to get the best ending. Ducktales 2 is harder but more along the lines if you want to find every treasure. Most of the disney games were easy but still fun, like chip n dale and talespin. Simple, easy and quick. No wonder they were perfect for gameboys. Plus those battletoads games were tough but due to bad controls and hit detection

Most of these games were very easy. I thnik Adventures in the Magic Kingdom is even easier than Duck Tales. Until Implayed Felix the Cat, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom was my #1 easiest NES game. My brother couldn't beat the Space Mountain part for a long time. That part may seem hard, but in reality is easy to beat (my brother realized that after he tried again years later and beat it easily).

IMO, TaleSpin would be the hardest Disney NES game (I suck at shmups), or Aladdin (sucks, very crappy color worse than Lion King which I've beaten).

You saying there wasn't a stage select or that the game was impossible without using it? Just checking because there is a stage select code that I remember from a full Gamepro tips book, well a series of codes (it depends on what level you want to start at). That and there was a continue code, as seen below. However, you're right. The game was hard. I played it a few dozen times and only ever beat it once.

http://www.gamegenie.com/cheats/nes/MickeyMousecapade.shtml

Three things.

1. I can just see 6-8 year old girls (or boys) trying to find their way out of the forest maze back in the 1980's (or whenever this game came out).

2. Unless you did that easter egg/trick where you'd hide Mickey while Minnie shoots stars at Peg Leg Pete, it was a bitch trying to beat him.

3. Whenever I was in Stage 1 and Minnie got taken away by the crow, I always hit reset and started over. Looking for her was a pain in the ass.

Mickey Mousecapade hard? Hmm, there's another one I have to say was extremely easy. As a kid I had it beat in just a couple days...I think I was 10 years old. There's a couple tough part the first time you play it, but after that you will probably beat it on one life every time.

Before I got an NES again, I tried playing Duck Tales on emulation with a keyboard, and gave up after about five minutes. It's MUCH easier with a controller.

That's the one where it's absolutely necessary to use the Throw move, right?

Oddly enough, the first one got original box/cartridge art when it was released on the GB. Not so for the sequel.

The first one felt just a little bit too rough, development-wise, but was nonetheless quite an enjoyable challenge when I was a wee one.

I truly suck at every pure console game - especially platformers. I think I spent too much time playing slower paced PC games to develop the needed coordination. I've never even beaten SMB.
