Some have a small fan, some do not. They all have a fan header, and a spot and grill for a small fan, but some units don't have one.

I have never had a problem with the panasonic 3DO so I think heating fans should not be a problem. Sega CD and Saturn never had fans I believe.

nope, no fans in 1st gen SCD.

kinda of odd that some panasonic 3dO have fans and some dont. is it possible to distinguish them without opening them up?

Had my 3DO since day one of release (and the Sega CD for that matter) and never had any problems with them overheating or anything...

I don't think that the older CD based systems had a lot of the technology in them that the new systems have that requires them to use fans. I'm not very technologically proficient, thats just a guess of mine.

Sega CD and Saturn never had fans I believe.10 years back I had my saturn and model 1 genny/front loading sega cd/32x on a shag carpet. They must of had fans, cause I bought a brand new psx and it over heated on the shag carpet after a 1/2 hour. I'm starting to think the 3do model doesn't have internal fans, but I'll have to open it up and check to see if there is one by next week.

Mine definitely has a fan. This is the first I've heard of ones that don't.
