Which series of Blue Bomber games do you prefer and why?

Through the wonders of Megaman and Megaman X collection I've been going back and trying to beat all of the Megaman games that I was unable to play as a kid. Making good progress too, with everything but X 6 and Megaman's 5,6 and 8 down, if you count my childhood playthroughs and you only count through the Playstation era.

Playing them both I can understand that the original Megaman games are sort of purer in gameplay and lighter in tone, but I have to say I prefer the X games.

I love the collection element and all of the stuff hidden in obscure places. In X-2 you have to ride a motorbike through the entire outside part of a level, jump into the interior part and drive across spikes straight toward a wall just to get one heart tank. I guess a good player then turns at the last second and looks awesome, but I always just crash and explode.

Also, it helps that with the benefit of all this armor and other stuff, everything seems a lot easier, except for maybe some of the boss fights. Sigma from Megaman X-4 was pretty tough.

While I do love the original series, the X series just has a more bad ass feel to it so I would have to go with that series.

To be fair, Megaman Zero has also been out for a few years now, too.

The original Mega Man series for me, hands down. For my money, I can't think of a game I've played more than Mega Man 2, or wanted to play for that matter. The X series is cool, but I grew up playing the original 6 and those are the ones I'll continue to go back to.

both are baller in my opinion, but my snes wins out. x is pretty good looking and I love the anime-style funky characters and suits that x introduces. Plus, is it just me or were the 8 bit mega man's a bit harder than the x's?

I enjoy both series quite a bit, but I like how the X series "grew up" per say: collecting the different armor powerups, collecting Zero parts and extra life and energy tanks. I also enjoyed how with each X title the storyline was more mature and darker then the previous one.

I prefer the X series. The overall design of Megaman himself is better, and I prefer the bosses that are based on animals.

I always liked the X series better.

I still like to go back and play the original games. The X series is better though. It has dashing instead of "sliding" which everyone hates. The controls are tighter. The moves are quicker. It looks nicer. I think I'll go with X.

I've only ever played a couple of the NES and I wasn't a fan so I didn't try the X ones.

Let's see....
Allies:
Megaman-Eddie, Auto, Rush, Beat, Protoman.
Megaman X-Zero, Axl.
Verdict-Megaman X. (Yeah, I went with the more serious ones.)

Main Enemies:
Megaman-Dr. Wily.
Megaman X-Sigma.
Verdict-Megaman X.

Robot Bosses:
Megaman-All end in, "Man."
Megaman X-Variety of animal-like enemies.
Verdict-Megaman. (Yeah, I went the simple route with this one.)

Recurring Enemies:
Megaman-Bass and Treble.
Megaman X-Vile and his walking armor.
Verdict-Megaman X.

Armor:
Megaman-Rush mesomorphic.
Megaman X-Various different sets with different effects.
Verdict-Megaman X.

Falling down a narrow pit:
Megaman-You're fucked.
Megaman X-You can climb up walls.
Verdict-Megaman X.

Final Verdict-Megaman X.

The original Mega Man series got a little played out and seems everything after 1 was just a carbon copy. However, I did own number 6 and was one of my top players when it came out. I loved how they introduced Rush and the other characters as in-game helpers. That was pretty sweet.

Mega Man X just has more in terms of back story and concept. Zero being a playable character nearly wet my pants back in the day (x3). It was nice to see a new breath of fresh air to play with in a excellent series.

I'm quite sad with the state of Mega Man right now. I think they ran on the concept of Mega Man X by taking it to the next level, but went overboard on character design..

I like the X series. It alwasy felt darker, and for some reason I always attached myself more readily to the plot. Even had a pen and paper MMX session going for a while with a buddy of mine. Gotta love GURPS.

Rockman X was okay up till the the fourth game. After that the whole series went awall. You can't really compare them after X5 since X5-X?? is like Regular Rockman. no such Verdict exsist you are just playing more rockman games.

Personally I love the Rockman Zero series most of all. It is was the original creator wanted to do in the first place.

Rockman was originally sappose to be red in his RM6 Rush Armor but the creator ran out of colors to use so he was blue. Zero is really the neo look for Rockman and thus the name Zero. RMZ is perfect in every way that is Rockman bliss.

RMX after RMX3 is toooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOoo much Rockman Run-off.

I still love RMZ best of all. RMZX is crap and personally I love the first Three X series games along with Four I guess.

Try the 1st or 4th ones, my friend. I'd rate the difficulty a touch above kiddie.

Did you ever tried to beat megaman 1 without cheating? Can you explain to me how a little kid can beat that game!. There were some tough levels and bosses in that game including the rock creature.

I like the original series the best. The games don't take themselves too seriously like the X series -- to me, it doesn't matter if the storyline fits together so long as the games are fun. 4, 5 and 6 had the exploration element that would be expanded with the X series.

I think Chazz means the Mega Man Battle Network games. And I really doubt he's ever played the Mega Man games on the NES...

I did it as a kid. Well, I used the select trick on the golem, but who didn't? 15 years later I finally took it back out and beat it legitimately.

I didn't. Megaman's clone was harder, anyway...

It's for people who can handle mature themes... apparently you're not one of them.

I love both series, but the X games got a few really crappy games in the form of X6 and X7. X6 was a rushed mess with broken level design and X7? Yeshhhhh! The game was a total disaster.

But really, I overall enjoy both series a lot. The gameplay in both series is still fun to this day and the music is some of the best I've heard in all of gaming. Actually, the music is some of the best I've heard. Period.

I like 'em both, but the X series sort of lost its luster to me after it moved from the SNES. I've gotta say that the classic MM is still my favorite, and that includes the Game Boy titles.

The original series has charm to it. It wasn't overly frustrating, or required funky tricks to pull off certain moves, it was just a fun platformer.

I couldn't have said it better, and it's nice to see another new member from good ol' "7-month-winter" Calgary.

I actually just moved here in December. I can't believe we can go from +20 to snowing in a matter of days.

Fortunately I missed the -20 temps.

(This is in Celsius for all of you who thought the +20 was already too frickin' cold)

#2 was the last MM I played. I was mega-cheating with the game genie, not that I need it, but sometimes you just need a little something to make a game that much more enjoyable.
