I came across some Sega Saturn cdrs marked LUN1 and LUN2 and were with a stack of working designs protos.I think I found some Saturn protos of Lunar. Was this title released on the Saturn in Europe or Japan? I need to find a Saturn and get some pics up.

In Japan? Both games were released on the Saturn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_series#Lunar:_Silver_Star_Story_Complete).

Game Arts released both Lunar games in Japan. I have both of them. I think it would be interesting to find out what is on those disks.

Yes but only in Japan it was since in America the Saturn Died off. Working Designs was probably going to translate it but they never got a chance to since Sega OA was really moronic with them at the time.
Nice find.\\^_^/

I hope this develops into something interesting... maybe like a translation in progress?
Keep us posted.
Also, what other nifty stuff was WD working on with the discs you found?

Yes please.
Working Design titles are among the few that I spend their complete worth on.

Personally Working Designs made more worth while side products then game translations. While it was better then most Translations I wish they would have made more side products.

There's a Lunar for the Sega Saturn, but it's in Japanese. Why not get Lunar Legends for the Gameboy Advance?

I know there was a preview of Shining Wisdom and I saw an Alundra. I assume those are both working designs but there a couple others as well.

Working Designs was working on translating Lunar for Saturn, but they decided to cancel it due to Bernie Stolar's douchebaggery at E3 '97.

The battle system in the gba game is comeplety removed and replaced with a common RPG battle system. No free raoming cat or animated characters.....
.............
......What sucks about that is the SNES and Genesis both had RPG games with highly animated characters and yet the gba got this craptacully stand still nonsense.
If the gba can do mode 7 in two diffrent modes then it should be able to animate these characters.
Luna's song is down sized. They made new graphics and angles in the game ( which is okay I guess ).
The original Genisis game had vioce actors and on the Saturn but yet not on the gba. Not even sound effects.
When you see the characters appear you get this dorky sound effect even more annoying then the one on the Genesis version. The over world is diffrent.
They pretty much made the game even more unplayable and more annoying.
WD made the game playable and had nice vioces for every characters. Not just the same old thing you hear.

That was basically the last salvo in a war of equal douchebaggery from both sides. Stolar had been a total ass to WD since his Sony days, and he just brought the feud with him to Sega. Vic Ireland was looking for any excuse to get away from him.

Generally the closet you are going to get towards Lunar for Saturn is Lunar for the PSX.

I'm reasonably sure that it's just the PS1 version. There wasn't a saturn version of it released in Japan, and color me a skeptic, but WD didn't have the talent, funds, or time to port a game from PS1 to Saturn. They had a hard enough time localizing games without breaking them.
That said, their localization of Alundra was a hell of a lot more enjoyable than the Japanese version.

Yes, this is true.
In conclusion, Bernie Stolar is a douchebag.

Vic Ireland was every bit the douchebag Stolar was and then some. I'm honestly surprised the two didn't get along perfectly.

I'm not a huge Vic Ireland fan either, but at least he was responsible for bringing us some pretty sweet games. Bernie Stolar, on the other hand, was mostly responsible for preventing us from getting some pretty sweet games.

Yes the LUN1 and LUN2 Saturn disks turned out to be .......

The Albert Odyssey discs were also for the Saturn. Didn't get far but it looks like work in progress as the voices were not English. Title screen says SUNSOFT? Thought this was a working designs game.

Working Designs was merely a publisher/localization company. The booklet for Albert Odyssey, IIRC, has some interesting info on some of the tweaks WD implemented when they brought AD over to the States.
