Well this came out of left field, at least I didn't know anything about it until a few days ago.

Of course I can't find it in stores, so I went ahead and ordered it along with Taito Legends 2 online. But if Art of Fighting gets released here, think Garou or Real Bout will make it out here?

The first Fatal Fury comp is planned. It is on the SNK Playmore site as in development. Everyone needs to search out the AOF Anthology so they keep 'em coming. The PS2 MS Anthology was fantastic.

I too went for this and Taito Legends 2 online, but I made the mistake of going with value shipping. Still waiting.

Um... mine?

Seriously, didn't expect this, but if we get a Garou port to a home system that isn't next gen, I'll cream myself.

I ordered my copy from Amazon over the weekend; still waiting for it to come in. I just hope that this is a good sign of more anthologies coming our way.

This one snuck up on me too...was at Toys R Us to get Guitar Hero 2 and just happened to see it on the bargain shelf. For $15 I couldn't resist, even though it's my least favorite of SNK's fighting franchises.

Me too. I was starting to get worried that the package got lost, but maybe I'll give them one more day.

I checked my Amazon account this morning and found that it still hadn't shipped. I decided to cancel it. So, following the advice of Putney, I decided to check out TRU. Lo and behold, it was right there on the shelf. Fantastic. I still can't believe it's only $15. It deserves to at least be $20. Also grabbed some Viewtiful Joe figures for my shelf while I was at it. :)

My Taito Legends 2 was from Gamestop and I received it today. I think I'm going to play that one first. Metal Black here I come.

[QUOTE=klausien;1187109] The PS2 MS Anthology was fantastic. [QUOTE]

Well, in terms of providing a group of extremely rare games on one disc, yes it was. In terms of being a good compilation that will satisfy Metal Slug fans, it's the furthest thing from fantastic. Let's just hope SNK puts more effort into the Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury collections...

It was released on Dreamcast in the US.

Edit: If you are talking about a Garou Densetsu Anthology then I too hope it does come out as well to the US.

Tekken stick works good for me :)

Crap, $15 at TRU? I paid $20 for mine at EBgames.com... oh well.

So what's the problem with the Metal Slug collection?

I played it... maybe I just never really understood the greatness that is the Art Of Fighting, but I didn't really like it.

Might just be me, though.

Join the club.

I saw this at KB last Tuesday, and I almost picked it up. Then I came to my senses and realized I'd rather walk on glass.

So what's the problem with the Metal Slug collection?

Which version? I know that the PS2 and Wii ones both have their issues.

PS2 one doesn't save your high scores. The Wii's control schemes are all crappy (all 4 versions) not to mention some of the most clunky menu movements i've ever dealt with for a game. The save feature in this one is a bit annoying as well. Last I checked there were still some hidden 'bonus' features that no one had been able to figure out how to unlock either, not that the bonus 'screens' were really worth it.

That seems like needless nitpicking though. Metal Slug Anthology is a 2-D fan's dream come true and still worth picking up. $40 for all 7 games is a bargin.

I love the fact that SNK is releasing all these classic compilations for PS2. I'm surprised that they're even allowed to do it, considering MS and Sony's downloadble services are taking over the classic arcade market. I think it's very likely that these PS2 SNK games may be some of the last compilations we'll ever see. The PS3 and 360 will certainly never have games like this.

Other than that, the PS2 ports are superior to their Neo Geo counterparts, so I guess you have to really debate if high score saving is worth the couple hundred dollar's difference between the PS2 Anthology and the Neo Geo originals. The controls in the Wii version totally ruin it, though :(

I've never much cared for Art of Fighting, but I'll probably pick up this collection to show a little retail support (however small!) in the hopes that other collections make it out here. I guess I've gotten $15 of fun out of AoF3 since its release via emulation anyway.

I am not a Fan of Art of Fighting but If it tells them there is interest to release other Collections, it's worth it but it's all good.

Personally, at this point in time, I think lack of high score saving, when the other two ports have it, is completely inexcusable. Some people say small beans, but these things do matter and just show a lack of attention to detail that is, unfortunatly, an all too common part of SNK Playmore releases.

It's not that it's a -great- series... for me, at least, it's a matter of childhood memories. I grew up playing the series. It's very dear to me. And I was the only one who actually beat all three games in my hometown.

I haven't bought it yet, though. :(

I never got into 2, but 1 was my first Neo Fighter I ever played, and 3 is just great. I owned the originals but man this is a great collection.

... That's it? No option to play as Mr. Karate / Geese Howard / Wyler? No mission mode? No art extras? :(

For $15 i think extras aren't worth bothering about. Its $5 a game, I can live with that.

You can play as Wyler and Mr. Karate. Not Geese that I know of. Also, besides having arranged music, it has a color edit.

You can play as Wyler in the original game, too. Mr. Karate, well, no, but he's just a souped-up Ryo.

Geese was probably deemed too strong to be allowed as a playable character. Ah well.

I'm reading an FAQ over at GameFAQs regarding the NeoGeo Online Collection series, and it looks like the upcoming Fatal Fury Battle Archive discs will rock. I really, REALLY hope that they're allowed to release the other games in the series, too. I was going to buy the currently released KOF 2 packs, but I think I'll just wait. :D

I caved in and bought it at my local Gamestop. It was $15 after all.

The game's actually emulating a NeoGeo home system and not the arcade system - which means that we're stuck with the four default home difficulties (Easy, Normal, Hard, MVS). It looks like there's no way to play higher difficulty levels (5 to 8).

The games look and play pretty good. There's a "soft" graphic mode which I didn't try because it made the main game selection screen all blurry, and you can choose between two different TV modes (I don't know the difference between the two.) So far I've only found one small graphic glitch in the Art of Fighting intro, when the logo stretches onto the screen. The graphics froze for an instant and the image appeared out of nowhere. I'm still a bit confused because I've used a certain gamepad configuration in MAME for the past five years, and my mind says "Press this button!" when I'm trying to do something else, heh.

The arrange music is... well... odd, to say the least. I own the arrange soundtrack CD for Art of Fighting 2 (Ryuuko No Ken 2 Image Album) and it looks to me like they just ripped the music off the CD and slapped it onto the game. There are no round breaks where the music restarts, which is good - but the music looped over from the beginning at one point, just as if I were listening to an old NeoGeo CD game. It was weird, but not that bad.

My sister was oddly amused by the fact that I was playing fifteen year old games on my PS2. I told her I first played the series back in Primary (Elementary) school - in 1992!

Also, the manager at my local Gamestop told me that the game SOLD VERY WELL! I bought the last copy at the store, so I'm happy that the game sold out quickly, but I'm wondering if the people who bought this game went "WTF is this shit" since the game's not for everyone. ;p

So yeah. The disc gets a 7/10. Great playability, next to no glitches, no slowdown, no audio issues. Only problems are lack of extras and some weird sounding arrange music. For $15? Not bad.
