A friend of mine just picked up a used copy of Leaf Green(Pokemon) to play on his DS lite. The game however gave him some really strange errors and I was wondering if anyone had a clue as to what they might mean.

This error comes up when the game is started:
"1M sub-circuit board is not installed"

You can go past this error and start the game, but when you go to save this error appears:
"Save error, Please exchange the backup memory."

I was also wondering how do GBA games save, do they have a backup battery?

Sounds like he either got a bootleg or if it is legit, then the flash chip used for saving is shot. That chip could be replaced.

Thanks, yeah it was not a bootleg.

If it has a warrenty use it.

Maybe it might be the NDS light itself?

Stuff like this happens more often than you think... I picked up a copy of Drill Dozer for the GBA that didn't rumble. Nintendo apologized and sent me a replacement copy. If you still have the receipt, you should be able to either get a replacement at the store, or get one through Nintendo's warranty. :)

Thanks to everyone, he was able to return it to the store.
