View Full Version : Non Working Games, Where to start?

Hello, I just got three arcade games (stargate defender, Robotron 2084, and Battlezone) none of them come on. I have no idea where to start, i can include pictures of them if you would like. Any help would be greatly aperciated.

You'll probably want to start w/the power supplies, also may want to move to a more arcade oriented message board.

Some of the older boards require a lot of amps to start up. Most I've seen was around 12 amps.

wow, 12 amps can i just check to see if it is getting 12 amps out of the back of the powersupply? you also said that this is really an arcade orianted board, could you suggest one?

There's the Usenet group rec.games.video.arcade, also do a Google for arcade forums or such. Some of the guys on killercabs.com might be able to help as well, though they are generally geared towards newer games. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Also, what's your general electronics experience? You can get a nasty shock from mucking around w/things near the monitor, so be careful. Power supply is always the first place to start if you aren't getting and power up.

As the others said, start with the power. See if you're getting 5v to the board and 120v to the monitor. Also, be careful what you touch.
Yep- dont touch the anode aka the little suction cuppy thing on the back of the monitor tube.

I don't have a williams machine myself, but from what I hear, their original power supplies are really crappy. If you do get another one, I'd buy it, here:

I've dealt with these people for several years, and they have top notch prices on new replacement parts. And I've got one of their new power supplies in my Galaga machine. It has a voltage meter - as long as you see green, your voltage is a steady 12-12.1 amps.

First of all, you have three separate machines. Three machines likely equals three separate problems.
Doesn't work != doesn't work. Monitors don't power up, power supplies die...there are many things that can go wrong, but they don't usually go wrong all at once.
If it's COMPLETELY dead, check the fuses in the cabinet first.
Your next step is to go thru each game and tell us which parts of which games are working. ie Robotron monitor powers up, but nothing on screen. Stargate I can hear the game when I coin it up, but nothing on screen.
