Anybody pick this one up yet? It's getting bashed on all the mainstream sites, though I'm still 99% sure I'll get it at CC this afternoon for the discounted price of 39.99.

The main gripes seem to be the ammount of chance involved with the boards (duh, it's a board game), the fact that it isn't that different from part 7, and the graphics (no widescreen).

The only thing that bothers me in the lack of widescreen, I mean why do this? Anyway all the user reviews seems to confirm that this game is still a blast when played as intended, with a group of friends.

And as someone who's only played part 4, it'll all be new to me. And as far as the random chance aspect, to me that was the best part about 4, nothing was better than to see a gloating friend in first place get booted back after landing on the wrong spot :)

Personally I could make a Mario game if I had a team on hand and install all Mario parties in one N64 kart or even GBA gamepack. Wario Ware is ten times better then this game when playing alone or with freinds.

with a group of friends.

Right and with that we can all go to the beach and play volley ball.

Then why are you on a gaming forum instead of a beach volleyball forum?

I picked it up yesterday. One of the only Wii titles I had been looking forward to in a while. Since I have neglected my Wii for a long time now, I had to pick it up.

I got to play one game with my fiancee, and it was a blast. I do agree about the wide-screen issue, though once playing you barely notice.

Just read the review on Gamespot, with a mediocre score. However, I don't quite see what's so bad about it. Yes, it's more of the same, albeit with a new controlling method. As I skipped entries 6 and 7, it should be quite fun, especially with some friends around. The biggest problem I have is that I've got to buy 2 additional remotes...

Mario Party's have been getting the exact same mediocre scores for a long time... you know why? Because nothing substantial changes between them. Yet they're some of the most fun games to play 4-players that you can possibly find. And how do reviewers score EA sports games? Consistently with 8's and 9's, despite having nearly an identical record as MP games (one every year, only minor changes, gameplay stays the same, very fun games if you like that type of game).

I don't really get it, I've never met somebody who played a MP game and didn't enjoy themselves.

Whelp, just got back from the store with it. Now the question remains, do I honor my girlfriend's wishes and wait 'till tonight to try it out with her, or do I open in now and take for a test run?:D

I'm a big Mario Party fan, but the lack of online play really soured me on 8. I really don't understand Nintendo's seeming aversion to it. I don't have the opportunity to play games with anyone else very often, so being able to play against others online would've been fantastic. I certainly think Mario Party is better suited to be played online than Mario Strikers, but oh well - I digress.

Yeah, Nintendo misses some of the really obvious candidates for online play... I don't get company at my house often, having a three-year old and all, but I know 3 or 4 couples who live around the country who would love to play with us online if that were a possibility. I sure hope the new Super Smash Bros. is online.

Fantasia, if SSB Brawl doesn't have online play that would be one of the biggest gaming industry blunders in recent memory. Honestly, Nintendo has made some significant headway this generation with the Wii, but if they refuse to fully embrace online gaming soon then they probably never will.

Let me introduce you to myself and my wife. She bought Mario Party 7 and thought it was pretty lame. I tried it, and for once my wife and I agreed on something.

Because you are always there wearing that damn Borat swimsuit!!

SSBB will use friend codes only. Huge mistake IMO. Nintendo has to protect all the little kiddies from pedophiles or something like that.

Just played it for a couple of hours with my kids and I almost fell asleep.

More of the SOS. If you've played one Mario Party you've played them all. Two thumbs down. :(

played it for a few hours last night with some friends, and we all really enjoyed it. The motion controlls definately make the minigames better.

Money well spent.

My parents are wanting to play it. They like the Mario Party games (Except MP4), and I'll play some of them (Though I'll take Final Fantasy VII over Mario Party 7 anyday)

Ok, now fly/drive out here to Milwaukee so I can meet you! Just kidding, I know there's no game that every single person would enjoy. Quick question tho, did you just play it the two of you with two AI opponents or did you play with 4 people? I don't like playing MP just with my wife much either.

Mario Party is one of the best examples of a multiplayer game that wouldn't be that much fun to play online. I'm not saying Nintendo shouldn't have included the option; I mean, sure, why not? But I don't really think playing Mario Party online would be any more enjoyable than playing it alone. Even if there was like live mic chat, I don't think it would come within a hundred miles of the true multiplayer experience.
