I have a R.O.B., I haven touched it in maybe a year, and now it doesn't want to tirn on. I just got a new one, and it's arms are too lose and it doesn't move up and down. I want to know if there are any repairs than can be done, and that aren't too hard.

Try hitting all the battery contacts with a solution of baking soda and water, then let it dry, and try it out.

Here's a general tip for anything that has an electric motor. I can't remember if I've worked on a ROB or not. Take ROB aaprt so you can access both ends of the electric motor, put a drop of plastic compatible oil on both bushings and spin the motor by hand. Electric motors get frozen up very easily. If you can hear the motor spinning and it doesn't work, there may be a gear stripped out or something.

It occurs to me that over all the years i've been thrift store and flea market hunting, I have never, ever come across a R.O.B. in the wild. Not that I've ever really wanted one all that badly, it's just that I like old '80s robots and would eventually like to come across one. I find NES Zappers all the freakin' time, but never a R.O.B. :( Who knows, maybe it's karma building up to a head. I'll get some amazing luck and come across a bunch of 'em, along with a stash of new Androbots.....

To think we used to use these things for target practice...
If you open it up, take some pics. I've never seen the inside of a r.o.b before.

Well, I didn't have any baking soda on hand, (I'll have to go to the store to pick some up) so I used the same alcohol solvent I use to clean my NES games with, and when I opened up the battery case to R.O.B., there was this blue gunk all by one of the battery springs, so I used the solvent to cleand somee of it (the stuff that wasn't too stubborn to come off) and R.O.B., turned on and moved slowly, so I wen tback and tried again, and he seem to be moving just fine (which isn't fast at all), so now I can finally enjoy the game of Stack-Up I've been waiting years to play!

Radio Shack makes a contact cleaner. I had to clean a ROB once with battery acid gunk. It has a short thick bristle brush on the end of it. It can get messy, but what do you have to lose. I did get working again. Tell them the issue with the battery leaking and they will promptly lead you to the special sauce.
