Wii vs. PS3

It is very clear based on sales alone that PS3 lags behind Wii, its inferior counterpart, in the number of units sold each month. The latter is always near or at the top of the field while the former always accupies the bottom. How this is so is beyond my comprehension and a number of reasons were indicated by many. I tried to look for answers myself and one instance, I chanced upon a site that aggregates expert and user reviews for a wide assortment of consumer electronic products. This is what I found based on the expert ratings accorded the two counterparts:

Nintendo Wii Console (http://www.smartratings.com/review/electronics/video_gaming_consoles/86) – has an average expert rating of 85 (based on 18 expert sources)

Sony Playstation 3 Console (http://www.smartratings.com/review/electronics/video_gaming_consoles/88) – has an average expert rating of 80 (based on 8 expert sources)

From the results, Wii is shown to be ahead of PS3 by a respectable margin. There is no denying then the superiority of Wii over PS3 despite having the inferior technology. Just my two cents.

Ultimately, it's all about the $$$, the game, and to a lesser extent, the excusives. It may level out after another year, then again, it may not. June's not the best time to get accurate sales figures, though. :)

So, what exactly are you trying to say? That Wii is outselling PS3? We all kind of knew that already.

Can't figure out why Wii is outselling PS3? It's pretty simple. Wii actually has some good games worth playing, and it's not a bloated, over-priced monster packed full of tech that not everyone wants or needs.

It really does all come down to cash. why pay $400 and up for a PS3 when you can get a Wii for $250? the Wii isnt that bad either.nintendo has finally realized that cartoony games dont sell thus they came out with the same titles everyone else has.plus if anything breaks on the wii they send you a replacement for FREE i dont know if sony does that but me likes.

Neither one of the systems have a lot of games slated for release. If you want to stay on the bleeding edge of gaming, the Wii is not your console. I see the Wii as nothing more than a system you bring out when your friends are over. Which is fine and has its place, but you're going to need to supplement that with either a 360 or a PS3 to play the best games coming out.

I see the PS3 (and to a lesser extent the 360) as trying to capture some of the PC market. The Wii is trying to get a totally different type of person: people who pay games casually and don't care about having photorealistic graphics, and people who like to play games socially with friends. So I think that comparing the Wii to the PS3 and 360 is not a good comparison. The two can be compared to each other, but the Wii is currently in a class of its own.

Hardware technology means little to nothing in regards to hardware sales. There are numerous instances of cheaper, less capable hardware beating out more expensive and capable competition.


The DS outsells the PSP
The PS1 outsold the N64
The Game Boy outsold......every competitor
The Genesis outsold the SNES (In the states and Europe)
The NES outsold the PC Engine/TG16

Etc.....

The PS2 is still selling more units every month than the 360 and almost twice as much as the PS3 NOW. at least in the U.S. and Japan no matter how some of the charts on the net try to skew the statistics.

The Wii is outselling the PS2 times 2 and the DS well its like a supernova in the number of overall sells WORLDWIDE.

My point....... hmmm dont really have one besides WHO NEEDS A $400.00 OR $600.00 system when u can have a Wii/DS/PS2 for the same price or less that should cover just about any gamers needs in everyway be it Retro: PS2/next-gen gameplay Wii/handheld PLUS new gameplay: DS or overall library of games in just about EVERY GENRE:PS2 . OK except the Halo/FPS fanatics but I dont see many here at DP so im sure its safe.

I bought all three, so I could care less about any wars or who is selling better. I bought the Wii/DS/PS3/PSP/360 combo. I think I'm good to go.

yeah same here. Well I use my PS3 mostly I'd say, but I'm playing PS2 games on it right now. I just went and picked up Odin Sphere on my lunch break.

Is there anything better than ps2 games upscaled to HD? I don't own a single PS3 game, and my PS3 gets about the same amount of use as my 360. And the Wii sits lonely on the shelf cause once I beat zelda, there wasn't a whole lot of games worth playing
