I'll say this again in the hopes that someone at some console industry see's it.

"Limited Edition" does not equal more cash. It's a pink fucking kiddie Game Cube for $149.99 that only was produced for 1000 units. I swear some silver plastic does not make a PS2 worth $50 more no matter what Sony thinks.

I agree with Raedon, if Sony is going to try and jack the prices up, at least add something that the consumers would want to pay $50 more for, like a free controller, memory card, anything. You can't just slap some silver on a machine and a tag that reads $250, it just won't sell. :(

OK, I think thats true enough - but people who collect these things can't get them outside Japan... You can't even get them *IN* Japan as they're always 'Sold Out'... If anyone disagrees with that statement, I'd love to know where they're not sold out as I'm always being asked for them and can't find them in Akihabara. It just so happens that I managed to get one. Remember this is Japan; most expensive country in the world...

Its been said time and again that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if someone believes that its worth the price, then they'll bid. I guess we'll see in a weeks time when its all over... If no-one wants it, then no harm done.

And let's just remember, that all sites that sell them new, are generally asking $300 for import regular ones and $320 if memory serves for the silver & pink ones.

thank you very much! it's AMAZING how some people who claim to be "collectors" don't see that while, YES, it's a "just a ps2 with a silver shell" don't realize that 1000, hell, even 5,000 pieces is a ridiculously low number. YES, someone out there WILL pay that much for a unit because it's another colour, partially for that, and partially because, well, it ain't-a-comin' out here at all. i'm not one of those folks, but i'll defend to the death someone who chooses to make that choice- it's their money, and what they do with it is their business.

i mean, shit, this isn't someone's dreamcast in a "rare" hong kong shell, and the price is less than what it's going for from importers here. that, and if you want to play imports the right way (with no hassles or LEGAL issues), it's more than a fair price. shipping will be a bitch, but hell, when you buy enough stuff from jpan, you know what you're in for (EMS rules, i'll have to say). good luck with the auction PJPN- post the results here.

Clan have must confiscate remaining metal PS2. We then sell for bigger funds!

Hey, no worries Starcade... I get your point well! ^_^ One thing I think I should mention is that (in general) Japanese folks tend to be more consumeristic, with less emphasis on repairing things, so Limited Edition of one sort or another are always popular as thats how a lot of people think here - new or better is always popular.

When people need a new (insert name of popular consumer electronics here) they dump the old one or take it to a 'recycle shop' where it is cleaned up and sold on... People never have yard sales or flea markets here, they're just never seen.

I've heard stories of people dumping working consoles that only needed cleaning or a light repair - I got an abandoned white saturn for salt_peanuts; free, for him to use for parts as the shop I got it from couldn't be bothered to clean it. A friend of mine got a free DC and I've picked up a 1st edition PSX that needs a bit of laser adjustment.... This happens less in Tokyo, but in the smaller cities, its still common.

OK, enough from me for now... ^_^

While I agree that it's stupid, I can't fault Sony here either. If the people will buy it, why not put it out there?
