I just got a 3DO and some games for cheap the other day. I haven't had much time to play it but the one game I've tried is Killing Time. Honestly I didn't expect much from the 3DO because I've never heard anyone rave about it. Also the one time I've played it before the only game we had to play was Crash and Burn. And that game is so, so bad. Anyway, to start off with the textures were of a higher resolution than I expected. The game looked like a Saturn release. But when I tried to play everything got extremely choppy. So choppy the game is unplayable for me, much like the Saturn version of Doom.

This is really unfortunate because I like the game. Aside from the horrible acting of the in-game movies the atmosphere is really surreal. The beginning part where you're shooting ducks and hunters is a trip. Ducks are quacking all over the place, hunters are slowly sneaking around trying to shoot you as hunting dogs bark softly in the background. Other areas have similar attributes.

I found out this game was also ported to the PC for Windows 95. Has anyone here has played that version? Was the choppiness still a problem in the PC port?

Well I agree with your assessment of Killing Time, though AT THE TIME the game looked and played as good as anything on any home console. Remember this was before the Saturn and PlayStation! It's badly dated, as are most 3D titles on the 3DO.

I disagree with you on Crash 'n Burn though. I think that's one of the system's best games. To this day the framerate and draw-in distance are impressive given the limitations of the 3DO.

Never played the PC version of Killing Time. I didn't really like the game enough to seek out an enhanced version of it.

But what about the game is good besides the frame rate and draw distance? I haven't played it in over 5 years but I remember the graphics being really bland and bad control. I suppose if I had played it in its time it would've been Ok. It seems the reviews are almost all favorable.

Looks like I'll have to check out Monster Manor for some FPS thrills.

I can't say anything about the PC version, but I have the Mac version, and it's a little choppy. It had a lot of things that were fun about it, with great environments and sounds, but for some reason that I can't remember I gave up on it halfway through. Still, for it's time, it was pretty remarkable.
