New Soul Calibur Revealed in Next Month's EGM
In case the Wii spin-off isn't enough for fighting fans.
By Patrick Klepek, 06/01/2007

Electronic Gaming Monthly's hands-on look at this summer's BioShock is just starting to arrive in subscriber mailboxes, but a sneak peak at the final pages of the issue teases something fighting fans have been waiting for: a new Soul Calibur (which, as we've previously reported, is Soul Calibur 4). EGM will be exclusively revealing Namco Bandai's latest fighter in just a few short weeks:

"If you're hankering for a virtual fistfight, top-quality options about -- the Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Dead or Alive franchises all offer satisfying punch-up action. But if you're truly looking to give your opponent something to cry about, it's all about wielding sharpened steel, and nothing beats Namco Bandai's Soul Calibur series for weapon-based fighting thrills. In our world-exclusive preview, we'll reveal the future direction of this beloved series."

In case Soul Calibur Legends wasn't enough, stay tuned; the Soul Calibur issue goes on sale July 3.

no doubt Soul Calibur 4 will be on Xbox 360 and PlayStation3.

I wonder if it'll be on the same CELL-based arcade hardware (PS3-based???) that will power Tekken 6.

I don't think we'll ever see an arcade port of SC4.

Unless you live in Japan, maybe...

The arcade is pretty much dead and buried.

Not totally true for one on one fighters though. Even King of Fighters XI and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection got US arcade releases.

Yep, Ive seen plenty of Tekken 5: DR cabinets, and even a few Soul Calibur 3 cabinets. No reason why 4 wouldnt be released, unless its running ONLY on the upper end hardware (I think SC2 at least had 2 versions).

I'm not the only one who didn't give SC3 as much love as SC1/2 then? Though I will admit, I will be going goo goo gaga for SC4... :|

I'll take SC2 over SC3 any day. I'm still looking forward to SC4 though.

in my best Yoda impression
"misread this could be hmmm?"

My take is that Soulcalibur 3 was the best since SC Dreamcast and faaaar better than the multiplatform version of Soulcalibur 2.

Sure some of the "extras" didnt turn out all that well like the wannabe RTS minigame but overall SC3 harkened back to the Dreamcast incarnation in a way that SC2 just could not truly capture. In fact the team at NAMCO states thats why they put SC3 on one single system so that the ONE version could get the attention that it deserved, now wether you believe that or not is up to you of course, I happen to think that the overall quality of SC3 shows through when compared to the multiconsole port of Soulcalibur2.

I look at it this way : it seems MANY gamers havent actually played SC3 since it was PS2 only by default many ex-Dreamcast owners moved to Xbox or Gamecube after the early demise of said DC.
SO in conclusion I think thats why the multiplatform SC2 is therefore overated since more gamers have actually played THAT game compared to SC3.
eh something like that anyway.

but THAT is for another thread still just had to put that out there.
