Sound Issue with Parappa 2

My friend just got Parappa 2. For some reason, there is NO sound at all in the game:

1) Boots PS2 loading sound when the system is turned on
2) Was playing GoW before and Jak 1 after with fully functional sound
3) After PS2 boot, receiver is showing that signal is dropped (hooked through optical out).

What is going on?

A few somewhat early PS2 games do not support optical audio out. This is not a hardware problem. A few publishers (mostly Japanese) turned this off so the music could not be ripped digitally.

This is one of the PS2 games that does not support Optical out.

Fantavision is another one.
