Why arent my passwords working? Ive written them down correctly over and over and the game wont accept them! Do the password work AFTER you obtain the first crown or what?

From looking at this, it does sort of seem that way:

This is one reason I dislike password games.
Mystical Ninja on SNES was also bad about this.

i've never had a porblem with the poasswords not working, other then just not writing them down correctly, just make sure you aren't getting 1's and i's mixeduip or zeroes and o's
passwords do work before you get the crowns and after, only time a password would come up invalid is if you used a game genie to start with more then 15 of any item ,you'd get a glitched out password if you tried that :-)
hope that helps some.

I never had any difficulty with the passwords before/after obtaining one crown either.

The password system never worked for me either. To make things even more confusing, here is a password that works everytime.
It'll start you with all 4 crowns and the dragonslayer.

I used to have a special system for writing down passwords where so many letters had a tendency to look alike. I would write Os as a square, and 0 would be narrow ovals. I would write lowercase Ls in cursive. I would write Ss with exagerated curves to distinguish from 5s, and many other tricks. Some games were worse than others, but LotW and River City Ransom come to mind as particularly shitty,

I did much the same, my password notebook (a 5 subject notebook FILLED with codes has soo many notes its not funny, only surpassed by a game genie notebook with lengthy descriptions of all the goofy stuff I used to come up with) but yeah, I remeber back in the 80s a friend gave me a famicom and a ton of games, if you think us games are hard to write passwords down for...just TRY to write down and re-imput a password in dragon quest 2,
yeah I had the game years before it came out in the us, but goddamned those japakahuchi passwords!
