View Full Version : Digital Press mention in July EGM

Don't know if this is old news, but I didn't see any mention of it yet. In the back of the latest EGM (July '07) there's an article called Retro Resources that talks about where to acquire classic stuff. In the margin, there's a list of a couple retro-friendly sites to look for gams and DP is mentioned there with a nice little blurb (Ebay is listed before DP):
"...That is, unless you prefer to barter with fellow gamers rather than pawn-shop pros. In that case, stop by Digital Press, the online companion to America's longest-running classic-gaming fanzine, where an entire forum has been established specifically for the purpose of game swaps."
Nothing big but it's still kinda cool to see DP mentioned in EGM again.

Well questionably. EGM's quality is on aa downward spiral. Still cool to have a mention.

That can't make up for getting rid of the Ask Fabio section :(

What, Ask Fabio is gone?! But he was still in the June 07 issue. Is he gone for good?

Parish is good people and seems to really get the retro thing even though he seems to be NES and up... :monkey:
EGM in general seems to have gotten a lot better than it used to be, and 1up.com seems to have better writing than ign or gamespot...
I miss NextGen though...

Out of curiosity, do you mean to say Kotaku portrayed DP in a negative light? What happened?

I think it made them look pretty bad, but as it is, they couldn't be more unprofessional.

I still chuckle at the Kotaku article:
1. Because they were having a slow news day that day.
2. Because the whole "gamers making fun of other gamers" thing is pretty damn ironic.

Why does everyone point fingers at Kotaku for this story, when they very obviously lifted it from somewhere else?

I don't point any fingers at them, I just point and laugh at how lame an article it is. It don't think it would have reflected on them any differently had they originally posted it.

But the real question is who lifted it from here?

It's funny that magazine has been sitting on my countertop for three days and I never opened it. Thanks for pointing it out, I'm sure I would have missed it!

What he said.
I have no ill towards Kotaku, but they did post (or re-post) an article that is really fucking lame.

Nice to see DP mentioned in EGM, though I have a feeling this is going to lead to an increase of threads from newbies asking where the buy and sell forum is.
Good to see that such a great community is mentioned in a magazine.

Not to change the subject, but where should I go to tarde and barter games? Are there specific threads for that on this site? And yes, I am new :)

Rugal has to be one of the members here just messing with us.
Like a sublime Wilford Brimley or some shit.
Now that dude in classic gaming who freezes his ff7 disc every 30 seconds because its scratched.....

Yeah, this made me feel good seeing the best forum on the web mentioned.
I have been listening to Parish's podcast Retronauts for sometime and it is always solid entertainment and information.

I'm glad EGM gave DP a thumbs up. I love this place. It's one of the few boards on the net where reading a post does not involve 20 minutes of deciphering spelling and grammatical errors.
Or 1337 speak.
Somewhat OT, but what's the beef with Kotaku? I haven't noticed them being any worse than most video game news blogs. And frankly, they blow Joystiq out of the water (which easily takes the cake for being the worst gaming news site ever - i think they banned me for pointing that out once.)

Again, it has less to do with Kotaku specifically and more to do with the fact that the article wasn't all that newsworthy.
*MY* gripe has more to do with the people making comments at the bottom of the page.

You're still crying over that article? Kotaku is a gaming blog so it's no exactly trying to be the next GameSpot. So why can't they have a sense of humor about it, and why can't you have a sense of humor rather than being upset about it just because they made a joke about DP? I tried not to take it so seriously, and actually found it funny. The real lame people were the ones on DP who started the thread. You seem to be a little over-sensitive anytime someone portrays DP as anything less than perfect. Not everyone has to believe that it's the greatest website ever created.

I don't think he was overreacting in his original post. Your reply is actually longer than his original post so who is the one with the real problem here? :)

Wait, since when did post length become the judge of how strong someone's reaction is? All it proves is that I ramble more and he keeps his overreactions brief.

At first, my reaction to your post was "wtf" then I realized you were the guy who went crazy in the first thread.

Hell yeah. I went crazy the first time and now it's happening all over again 3 months later! Look what you guys are doing to me-- my life is in shambles!!
I just don't agree with people being over-sensitive to jokes or even *gasp* criticisms about DP (or ANYTHING, for that matter). I'm all for having a sense of humor, even about ourselves. And hey, I would have laughed about it no matter what board it was about, so why make a big deal about it just because it was about DP...
