Very impressive! Keep us posted as to when you add more pictures. Actually, I'm amazed you didn't join earlier; seems you'd feel "at home" here. :)

A very impressive set-up, (extreme understatement). I really like how you have the systems tilted so that you can see them better. Where did you get the shelving system? I really like that. It looks a lot better than the same old plain shelves. I do not envy you when it comes to dusting.

Very impressive :)

Looking through you could do with a Telstar, Vic20 and C64GS... but you've got most things covered there!

Wow, very nice.

So you say they can be fired up in seconds, and everything is hooked up right?

So do you just pull a system over near the TV and plug in some controllers or what?

I didn't see any portables in that collection. So you've always got another segment of collecting to conquer. Damn, you've got a nice set-up there.

not bad, but you do need an Apple ][ and an Atari XE/XL, since you list the C-64

Thanks all for the kind comments regarding my collection and set-up - it is greatly appreciated.

The shelving system base units I got at, believe it or not, Target. I checked their website for it to provide a link but they do not list online. Each of the shelving units opriginally came with 5 shelves (not including the top shelf, and are 6' x 6' x 18" (height, length, depth). I added the additional shelves to maimize storage capacity of each one (basically added 7 shelves per side). I tried to do it so that they looked like they were part of the original design. Each shelving unit ran around $270 USD, and then around $10 or so for each additional shelf (6' x 6' x 1' wood, paint, 8 2.5" L brackets as the support).

I added the Click N' Stick spotlights to the left and right of each system (stuck underneath the shelf immediately above the system) to give each one accent. I would not recommend this way to go to light it, though the effects are great. First off, that is allot of lights at $10 for a pack of three PLUS 4 AAA bateries - ouch! I didn't realize what I was getting into (cost wise) when I first did this. The batteries are a killer (16 for $10)! Do the math - I got killed on this and could have had it professionally wired for what I have in those light 'pucks' and batteries.

Yes - I am missing a couple more 'core' systems, most notably the C64GS, a Zemmix system, the Creativision and a few more. The C64 is getting removed since it is a computer and not a true gaming system (plus I need the shelf space for a couple of new arrivals).

I tend to play a few of the systems, but to be honest, not all of them. The only system I have not played is the Funtech Super A'Can from Korea. I have a game for it, but I am not sure of the voltage transition I would need to do and I do not want to blow the system up if I try to wing it and I am wrong. There is not much information on this system on the net, so I need to be patient until I come across some good intel on this system. I do have the instructions, but I do not know anyone that reads the language.

I will post some more pictures of the individual systems with their boxes in the next week or so when I have some time. The boxes I have stored and it is a bit or work getting them out and displaying them with the systems. I have seen other collections displaying the boxes for their systems - unfortunately I do not have that kind of space in my humble abode.

Thanks again for the warm welcome to your forum.

I'll pull my ac adaptor out when I get home tonight and can get you the specs. I *believe* it's the same as the Genesis, but let me verify that. Hate to see an A'Can blown up over a simple mistake!

The C64 is getting removed since it is a computer and not a true gaming system How can a video gamer say this???

98PaceCar --> Thanks for looking into this - it is greatly appreciated!!

Reid --> I took some general photos of the various boxes for my systems and posted them in my 'Room of Doom'. The Pioneer Laseractive box is located in the back and on the bottom of all those systems in the big pile. I'll be taking out each box and taking a picture of them collectively for each system in the next week or so when I get some time to work on it. The general pictures of my boxes are just to let everyone know I have them, but they are not displayed at all due to space in my humble abode.

Gentlegames --> I agree the C64 was instrumental in history of video games in general, however it can not by itself play a cartridge or other media without extra peripherals (tape/disk drive) or booting to an OS. Your question is probably best posted/answered on a thread of it's own since this is always a highly debatable subject (what defines a console from a computer). I think your main point is that the C64/Vic 10, Vic 20, et al. played a very big role in the video game arena - and I agree with you fully.

New pictures posted with boxes, individual systems and some games have been added. I will try to add more when I can.

Thanks all!

While I agree with you that the C64 is a computer, the C64 can certainly play cartridge games without a tape or disk drive.

So I guess you don't want to burn your eyes out with a Virtual Boy.
Extremely nice collection. How did you get the foreign consoles?

Marriott_Guy
06-06-2007, 03:50 PM
I have considered the VB, but it is kind of a cross between a console and a handheld IMHO. Also, there are a tone of them out there and it really hasn't been a target on my radar as of yet.

I have purchased the non-USA released consoles from a variety of sources, primarily from eBay to be honest. One of the best suppliers I have purchased from has already posted in this thread (though an extremely short post I might add). I have also doen extensive searches through the internet to find/obtain the obscure consoles - you just have to do the research and know what you are looking for.

The A'Can takes an 8.5v, 1.2a center negative adaptor. Mine is the original that came with the console, so I'm sure it's correct.

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much 98PaceCar - that is the same one I have that came with the system. I just am not sure of the adaptor I will need to plug it into a standard 100 US outlet - that is the tough part. I'll probably shoot up to Home Depot and see if they have some sort of adaptor I can use. Thanks again!

Oh, I've got you! I've never had any problems plugging the 100v adaptor from my Famicom into a 120v outlet, so I'd assume this would be the same. I wouldn't leave it plugged in for any extended length of time, but it can be done safely (as far as I've experienced).

Wouldn't you count the Tomy Pyuuta (assuming it isn't a Jr) and FS-A1 as computers if you count the C64?

Raedon
06-08-2007, 07:17 PM
I like the Ivy along the top there.

It's like some mythical garden of the gaming gods. If I walked into the room I'd expect some tranquil ambient music with maybe some birds chirping ... could add a waterfall. XD

Marriott_Guy

Hey blue ladder - I was just thinking about that since I have new additions to add to the display and have to determine which ones will not be displayed in the 'main' unit. I agree with your thinking - the Tomy Pyuuta, the Panasonic FS-A1 and Texas Instruments 99/4a are probably going to get moved along with the C64 and put into their own section to make way for the Gakken Compact Vision (TV Boy), the Panasonic FZ-35S (3DO 2), FM Towns Marty 2 and the Telegames Personal Arcade (Dina 2-in-1).

Raedon - Thanks. You are close - my screensaver does contain the tranquil sound of a stream ... lol

I did find online the shelving base units that I am using for my collection. The link to the shelving unit:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-9/qid=1181425519/ref=sr_1_9/601-6942175-5283304?ie=UTF8&asin=B000GT0FPA

I added 7 additional shelves for each of these units buying 6'x6'x1' wood, painted them black and supported them with L-type brackets.

Hope this helps thos that are interested.
