Ok, im fairly new to the Genesis realm of collecting, (LONG TIME NES MAN, trying to extend my gaming collection), anyway, ive read in a few places on the internet about MegaDrive games being played in the Genesis 3 without an adaptor or any case modification? Any truth to this? I really wanna get my hands on Golden Axe 3 and Turbo Outrun =) =) =) =) ThanXXXX

the good news is: the G3 will play some imports without a converter or adaptor. the cart slot is shaped to accomodate mega drive or genesis carts from anywhere in the world.

the bad news: it won't play all of them. it's all trial and error, and i never really gave the system much of a go, as it's pretty badly made (i had two- one had a defective power switch, and the other one was dead on arrival- both were brand new). i just snagged a mega drive and that was that...=^P

Be aware that the sound of Genesis games can be really bad when you play them on the Genesis 3 because it doens't have the 8 bit Z80 processor in it. If you want a true experience you need to get a different version of the console.

I recently read elsewhere the Z80 functions were integrated into another chipset, so they're supposed to still be there. The sound quality is probably dependant on RF output to the television or something. Or the fact that Majesco used REALLY cheap, poor-quality stuff for everything they made.

It's not the actual quality of the output, but more to do with missing channels. The Genesis used a Yammy FM chip but also a two channel TI PSG chip. I think the later isn't in the Genesis 3 or an equivalent.
