I have not been this addicted in many years. Shinig Force III on the Saturn was my first experience with the series and genre and I gave up after I reached a battle I couldn't win. I knew nothing about leveling up, getting new weapons, character placement, etc. I was just playing with the same shitty characters and weapons and putting my weak-ass mages up front to get killed while by strong characters watched. Idiot.

I tried to get into the Game Gear spin-off years ago and gave up in boredom.

I just finished the GBA Shining Force (a remake of Genesis Shining Force I) and I was addicted for weeks. I think I finally get it now.

I finished Part 1 of Shining Force CD in a weekend (a port of a GG game never released outside of Japan.) I played it on an X'Eye for up to 6 hours a day, off and on. I have started Part 2 now (itself a remake of the 2nd Game Gear game, Sword of Haja.)

That leaves me with the original Shining Force 1 on Genny, Shining Force II on Genny, the rest of Shining Force CD (part 2, the extra bonus section, and the 2th -hidden- bonus section) and Shining Force III on Saturn. Someone has also translated the ROM for the last Game Gear game (never released outside of Japan and not any compilation.) I may be pulling out my Tapwave for the Genny games... we shall see.

As far as I can tell, all of the other "Shining" games contain referances to the Shining Force series but have different gameplay styles that don't interest me... Zelda-like stuff, 1st person dungeon crawling, etc.

The PS2 games are action/RPG games that have not gotten good reviews.

Does anyone know what I need to aquire in Shining Force CD part 2 to open up the 2nd bonus section that's supposedly hidden?

That is all. Thought I'd share.

Can't answer your question, but I noticed you didn't mention Shining in the Darkness. While not a requirement by any means for the series, it is an awesome game in it's own right and you may want to give it a look if you haven't...

Didn't realize how extensive the series was...

In the 3rd or 4th battle of book 2 there is a well in the upper right hand corner. Search it and you will get the museum ticket. This is what you need to access the "bonus" battles.

BTW, I am a HUGE Shining Force fan. I am glad you are enjoying the series.

If you do not care for dungeon crawlers I'd recommend staying far away from Shining in the Darkness and/or Shining the Holy Ark. Shining Wisdom is more a Zelda type game. I personally don't care for any of these 3 and just collect the "Force" games, except the PS2 titles which were awful (Neo and EXA).

If you have any more questions about the series don't hesitate to ask me.

HTH!
