Does anyone remember a D&D or AD&D arcade game? I remember it playing or looking a bit like Golden Axe. I'm trying to see if it was ever ported, I'm dying to play it. Does anyone remember it? It might have been made by Capcom, thats a big MIGHT.
I only vaguely remember the game, it was at a laundromat down the street from my house growing up (played it maybe 10-12 years ago?)

I have seen two of them ported to the Sega Saturn.

The sega saturn is the only one that got a port of D&D.
It's not to bad expect the loading times and, it only suports 2p no 4p sad to say.

There were in fact, two of them. D&D: Tower of Doom and D&D: Shadows Over Mystara. Both were released in a Japan-only Saturn compilation (that required the RAM expansion, IIRC).

And it is an import only game. The D&D Collection for the Sega Saturn never got a US release. In addition, I'm pretty sure you have to have the 4meg ram cart to play Shadow over Mystara. To play them on a US Saturn you pretty much have to have a Action Replay 4+ cart and about $120 bucks. I got lucky on mine. It was actually available in a local used game store here. They wanted $100 for it. But I ended up getting it for $75 with some store credit on returned stuff previously.
You are also correct in that it is a Capcom game. The D&D Collection has both arcade games ported. Mystara is the superior of the two in both graphics and gameplay.
I actually bought my Saturn originally in the hopes that one day I would aquire the D&D Collection and import it to play on my Saturn. The other issue is that since they are imports, there is no english text and the only english spoken is the "Welcome" from the shop gals.

I passed up on a copy of the Saturn port a few months back because it was out of my price range. Also at the time I wasn't sure if $40 (IIRC) is even a good deal certainly not knowing enough about the game.

I'd have jumped on a $40 price in a heartbeat!!! The usually sells for over $100 through the normal import online retailers. I haven't checked on Ebay lately, but I seem to recall prices in the $70+ range there as well for it.

I'll keep that in mind. The game was somewhat "not for sale" and in the back hidden from casual customers. I usually inquire if he has any goodies in the back so I was shown the game. Like I said though, it might have been a bit more than $40 but it wasn't near $70 or so. He's aware of eBay prices and doesn't gouge customers like many other places and it's a characteristic of his store people go back to. If I have the money I'll ask if it's still around or something but I'm not too worried.
BTW: You may want to remove your email address from your sig. Some spam web crawler might grab it and register it to mailing lists.

The load times are nasty on the Saturn ports...though again. Mystara is the worse of the two there. Otherwise, the ports are nearly arcade perfect. The music is there, most of the graphics are equal, though there is a noticable lack of animation in the Saturn port in places compared to the arcade versions. Also while the music is excellent on the Saturn port the sound effects and voices are muffled and compressed pretty badly. Still, as was noted before, there isn't any other home console release of these games to be found anywhere else. So for what we have they are excellent!

This may be heretical, but the two D&D coin-op games are readily playable via MAME.

thanks guys for the feedback. unfortunately, it looks like I'll need a fat wallet to relive that particular memory. Something to save up for, I guess.

Yep, I remember it, I've got the 4 player version sitting in the garage.

I played one of them last weekend on the Saturn. Meh. Not the best side-scrolling beat-em-up. And since the Saturn version is a straight port, it's kinda pointless since you get infinite continues upon dying.

Ice you got a D&D CPS2 cab working down in your garage?! You bastid...I never knew that! The D&D games along with Moon Patrol, Golden Axe Death Adder's revenge, and Sunset Riders are among the ones I would most likely want. Oh..and Tron..gotta have a Tron upright someday.

My advice: skip it. Get Tenchi Wo Kurau II instead - practically the same gameplay, similar style graphics that look just as good, much cheaper, none of that ridiculous load time (you would have thought that with the 4MB RAM to play with they could have done a lot better than they did). No brainer IMHO.

As already mentioned, there were two Capcom AD&D arcade games. They were alright, but IMO the arcade-only Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder was much better.

I managed to score the Saturn collection for $60.00 by catching a buy it now auction moments after the guy put it up, he even threw in the RAM cart after I mentioned I needed one.
And I really, really like those games. If you're just looking to give them a play to remember them hold off on the Saturn version and just MAME it for evaluation before laying down serious money.

Heh. Yeah, I'll make it hurt worse.. it's in perfect shape and I got it for *free* :) It doubles as a Mag Max machine. I've also got Altered Beast, Gondomania and a Super Mario Brothers/Dr. Mario sit down.
Moon Patrol is on my list as well as Double Dragon, Roadblasters, Cyberball, and a few others.

Here (http://www.gamengai.com/gm_inf.php?gm_id=601) is a quick blurb on the game. Expect to pay $60ish for the non-RAM version, upwards of $100 for a complete one w/ the cartridge.

Self control is a necessity when playing arcade games.

??? What's your point? I'm just saying that the Saturn port would have benefited from not being a straight arcade port.
Personally, I prefer Knights of the Round anyways.

you know i really love both those games. but then i'm a pretty big d&d player so i guess that makes it more appealing.
i used to play these at kennywood a local amusement park. also played it on MAME....one thing that cracks me up. i forget which one but you end up fighting a male dark wizard elf and every time he casts a spell he shouts out the name of the spell but in a super high pitched voice, like hes been breathing helium. hilarious, i never got to him in the arcade game itself so i don't know if thats his real voice or just my MAME speading it up or being off or something

I remember this or these games. I would play them all the time on MAME via Kalleria. The game itself is short but has many corridors and enemies. I forget if it has sound effects like X-men or Double Dragon.
I really hate the face that this game and W&W has the dark elf race. In these game they portray them as chinese ( Since the only country in Asia at the time was China X_x kinda like Jade Empire and thank god Beyond Good and Evil dodged that bullet:hail: ) and anyhows I forget there is a tower game made by Capcom on the SNES that does a great job of this game along with many other games.
I would play that like crazy along with Rockman Battlers 1+2, King of Fighters, and so on at the time.
The arcades should be affordable and cheap now and the game might be worth it I guess. Then again it can be on the SNES also.

That you're dogging a game b/c of a non-issue. Most arcade shooting game straight ports have a credit-feeding feature (just like their arcade counter parts). Self-control. Slap in a credit, get a good score, rinse->repeat after you die.
