Hello everyone,

This question isn't meant to be condescending although it may sound that way. Truth is that, after much consideration, I believe that I will want to get a PS3. I have weighed my options and Xbox never really interested me and thus I had the mental battle of Wii and PS3. I finally got to play test a Wii the other day and was very impressed by the innovative controls and mechanics. Wii sports was an amazing game. So I originally directed my attention to the Wii. The types of games I really enjoy are Adventure/RPG types. I looked at the previews of those types of games coming out for the Wii and they just look too cartoony for my taste and certainly not up to par with what I think I like now. It’s also more a of system of friends and being married and having school and a job, I just don’t really have that much time with groups of friends.

This directs me to the final choice of PS3. I must admit that I had a small bias in the fact that I have been drooling at the thought of FFXIII. Xbox and PS3 have very similar games but Xbox is more FPS/War games oriented and I dislike that. I will be looking forward to FFXIII/vs and MGS…but that’s 3 games…

So finally my question: Are there other PS3 games that seem like they would fit my picky taste and make the $600 price tag worth it?

Thanks,

Jeremy

nope.

What is your bias against xbox? It clearly has more impressive titles than any other next gen system. Change your diapers and give it a shot.

Well not at the moment but If you are wanting a PS3 than it's suppose to be in September for Rachet and Clank but if anything I would recommend waiting if you want a PS3 because there will be better games sooner than later but just not at the moment.

Yea, I dunno exactly, I just wasn't too impressed with the original. I'm not that interested in FPS games or war games or sports games. I did like Fable, Jade empire, SW Battlefront and Burnout but some of those were on the PS2 anyways.

I also am not too much into online play since I don't have half my life to dedicate to keeping up with others lol.

I don't get it the xbox had great none fps games. Still life, indigo prophecy ,stubbs, psyconauts, The 360 will have blue dragon and I predict msg4 and final fantasy.

The ps3 is going to have to move some units to get the bevy variety of titles the ps2 had. Until then I believe that whoever makes a game specifically for the ps3 will have that game end up on the other systems. Similar to resident evil 4 Great game on the gamecube but the numbers weren't there to justify exclusiveness.

Sitting around waiting for game to be releases like we did in the n64 era is no fun no matter how pricky a person can be.
I use to crack up when the n64 fanboys would act like everything is allright despite the fact that great game release is long in tooth. if you are that much against the 360 save your money and wait for the price drop and the dust to settle.

well I got a PS3 close to launch and I am into the same exact games as you, not big on FPS, or online gaming, really into rpgs. I bought my PS3 with Untold Legends-Dark Kingdom which was so-so, then I got Genji and Virtua Fighter 5....BUT, I have been using my PS3 ALOT lately since they made an update to upconvert all old PS1 and PS2 games to the resolution setting of your TV. Dragon Quest 8 and Odin Sphere look great in hi-res. So if you bought PS3 now, you'd have the system with the good backwards compatibiliy before they change the hardware (don't know much about it), isn't much for PS3 yet but theres a few games worth checking out in the mean time till the really good ones come out. The only difference in waiting or buying it sooner is the way the do backward compatibility. I myself am addicted to buying videogames so i just bought em all so I wouldn't have to deal with thinking about which one to get. I just get too excited when the release happens (i know some of you know how I feel).

Good point. I will check out those 360 games mentioned above as I have not heard of them. I will do a little more research on 360 at this point.

...and unfortunately I guess there is nothing on PS3 really worth it...for quite some time...it is a shame.

I look at it this way...

If you like Japanese RPG's...a PS3 will be a necessity down the road. It looks like the 360 will be getting a few this year (surprise, surprise), but realistically, the PS3 is still going to be the main RPG console this generation.

Atlus, Nippon Ichi, and (for the most part) SquareEnix aren't going to be supporting the 360 much, if at all. As far as the Wii goes, I own one and think it is the most useless console I've ever bought (so far of course...the games will come eventually). Even the N64 was a better purchase right after launch...at least it had Mario 64. Just my opinion.

The 360 won't have Final Fantasy 13 or 14, as was confirmed by SquareEnix this week (see thread in Modern Gaming).

MSG4 on the 360 can't happen according to Konami because of the storage restrictions of DVD.

Blue Dragon is going to be cool.

I believe in this day and age they all get ported. This helps offsets the dev cost. Re4 was suppose to be gamecube exclusive and it went to the ps2. gta 3 was ps2 and to the xbox. Msg wound up on xbox. I believe companies initially say this to catch the guppys and I bite all the time.

I don't believe them when 3rd parties say exclusive and I definately wont believe a this is the last installment of a series like they did with Jax.

That seems to be the case, which is why I may get the PS3... down the road, hopefully after a price drop. There should be a price drop or two or three by the time FF13 comes out.

I heard that the Untold Legends PS3 game is pretty bad. I have the Untold Legends game for PSP, which only managed to sell itself because it was the first real RPG for the PSP, and it blows as well.

That's why I have a Wii for now.

The first great PS3 RPG might be that "White Knight" game. The trailer looks fantastic.

The only really good RPG on the ps3 right now is Oblivion , but you could get it with the 360 for two hundred dollars cheaper.

So I would really really recomend not buying a ps3 right now. If you are into japanese rpgs yeah you're gonna need it, but you should wait two or three years for the price to drop and a lot more games to come out. I bought a ps3 right after launch and i really regret it. I use it now as nothing more than a big shiny ps2. Not a day goes by were I look at the big shiny bastard and think that I should sell it and just buy a shitload of snes games and get really REALLY drunk instead.

As for the Wii however, I would recomend looking into it, if you're into action rpgs one word for you ZELDA and there should be some good games on the horizen. But like the ps3 I would recomend holding of on it until more games come out.

and don't count out the 360, this system has been getting the most play in my house mostly due to the greatness that is oblivion and gears of war, I know there's a lot of shooters on the system but there's also gonna be those two games from mistwalker studios coming out Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey

Non-war/FPS titles on the 360: Enchanted Arms (multi system), Viva Pinata, Dead Rising, Oblivion (also on PS3). Two Worlds, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, and Final Sonata are notable upcoming releases. That's a good mix of Western and Japanese styles. Also, BioShock may be worth checking out even if you aren't into FPSs.

Don't really know anything about the PS3. If you don't have a PS2, the system may be worth buying just for its BC.
