Woohoo!! Scored a free PS2 today! My older brother told me that he had to buy a new PS2 last week because his old one had problems loading discs. I asked if I can have the old one since I don't own a PS2 yet, and he said "sure". I got it from him today and the first thing I did was load one of those laser lens cleaning CD's in it. After a couple of plays, the PS2 had no problems reading discs anymore and works like new! He also boxed it up with the new PS2 box and included the unused controller and cords! What a guy. Now I'm off to get Parappa 2 and Metal Gear!

So you let your brother spend $199 on a new system when you knew that it just needed a cleaning? I would've informed him that I was able to get it fixed and, if he wanted to, he could return the new one and save him some money. The way you did it was kinda underhanded.
Now, if you fixed it and he said "Nah, go ahead and keep it. I got a new one," that's cool then. Otherwise, <shrug>, I dunno. Kinda not cool.

You should consider going to the Restoration forum, and reading how to clean one properly. It won't stay clean long with those discs. It's like washing your face in a brush car wash. Sure it's cleaner, but is it "clean"?

Now here is a story of a true NEW PS2 FREE:
A few years ago my wife went to NY to see the Rosie O Donnell Show. they pulled her out of line an asked if she would participate in a game on the show for prizes. She had to guess show tunes that Rosie sang. She got 2 out of 3 right and won a PS2 NEW with ATV OffRoad. She also won a NEW Sony DVD Player.

Underhanded??? My bro already bought the new PS2 before he gave me the old one. He said he took it apart and tried fixing it but couldn't get it to work. Said if I could get the old one to work, more the power to me. I didn't do anything wrong x_x

Yeah, and he said he already tried a laser lens cleaning cd and didn't have any luck. Worked fine for me though. Maybe the one I used was ultra high tech or something?
Guess this PS2 isn't totally free after all. My brother now says he's keeping my Supercade book I let him borrow as compensation for his loss. Fine with me!
