Hello DP,
I don't mess around too often in the guts of consoles, but I need help now reconnecting the 7-pin ribbon of a friend's PS2. I got a decent amount inside it before I got stuck. Also, I've heard that these cables can just be put back into place but I am unsure as to how to do that. If someone could tell me what to do next, I would really appreciate it. I just need to get inside a little further I think. Feel free to copy and mark up these pics to tell me what to do next if that's the easiest way of explaining. Thank you very much, in advance.

This is what I need reattached:

How far I am inside right now:

top view of the disc drive:

I think I need to get these unhitched before I can move the disc drive around...?

and finally, I think this is my final destination. Am I right? Does it go back into there?

any help that can be given would be appreciated. Thanks very much...

It goes in the same general area as the other ribbon cables. Unscrewing both parts of the metal shield makes it much easier to put back in.

Get the base off of that PS2. The you will see wjre it goes. Life will be easier if you get that power switch out of the top shell. That is likely what caused this problem.

Thanks for the tips, they were helpful.
I took off the base of the PS2 and now have a clear view of where the cable connects into. But, it kind needs to fit tightly into there, and it's flimsy and difficult to put back in, especially since the port is located underneath where the disc tray was still and its a few inches inward. And tips on a way to get it reconnected?

How would I go about getting the power and disc switches out of the top of the shell? They're attached pretty tightly in there, it looks like...

I'll post pics of anything upon request as soon as I get home from work.
Thanks so much for the help so far! =)

The power switch should pop right out with a small screwdriver.

It is awkward to re-insert. With some versions, you need to remove the RF shielding covering the motherboard. To do that, you need to remove the power supply...

The best policy is to not yank that out. For OSG repairs, I always charged a bit extra when a failed DIY job made me fix this.

I've seen people tear that cable, perforate it, kink it up so bad it would not function. Then you need a new cable....
