who else can hardly wait for this to come out next week? I just placed my preorder for it today, so I can get the code for the 10 extra vehicles and the video... glad I found out about it in time... you have until June 19th to do it!

well it turns out that the preorder code won't unlock anything exclusive, it just allows you to unlock 10 extra vehicles and a video that you would have to win races to unlock otherwise... but still that's 10 extra vehicles that I'll be able to race with right out of the box that most people will have to earn... and this offer is only valid for those living in the US, so it is a bit exclusive...

meanwhile, I'm surprised that more people here aren't as anxious as I am to get their hands on this new racer... Dirt is gonna be the best thing to happen to rally racing on the PC since Microsoft released Rallisport Challenge for the PC in 2002... and it's already been confirmed that there will be at least one sequel, if not two sequels... so Dirt 2 is on the way and Dirt 3 is very likely...

I played the demo a bit last week. Dirt looks fantastic graphically...now if I could only keep my car on the road.

Did anyone use the official 360 steering wheel with the demo? If so, how did it run?

this video should get you pumped up for playing Dirt for sure... I sure hope this truck and this driver are in the game... if not, they certainly should be... Andy McMillin won 1st Overall in the 2006 Baja 1000 while driving the Red Bull Class 1 Trophy Truck... heck, this dude really should have his own game...

watch this!

real racing!

EDIT: UH-OH... I see they've already disabled hotlinking to this video since I posted it on the Codemasters forums for Dirt... so here's how to see it now:

I had this problem with the controller. Maybe I just suck at the game though.

well now that it's finally out in the US and the UK, I've discovered that I have 3 different options for playing the PC version, none of which are worth much:

option 1: spend $250 on a new DirectX 9 video card with shader model 3 support, knowing that 6 months later I'll need a new DirectX 10 video card for Dirt 2 or some other new racing game that requires DirectX 10 support

option 2: spend $500 on a new DirectX 10 video card with shader model 3 support, and possibly have to buy a new motherboard to be able to install it, unless an AGP version of a new DirectX 10 video card is finally released soon

option 3: wait about 2 years for the price of a new DirectX 9 or DirectX 10 video card to come out of fantasyland back down into the realms of reality

these are my choices for being able to run the game at only 30FPS or less in most of the racing modes... hardly worth the price of the supposed priviledge of being able to do so... especially with no real online multiplayer support...

Dirt on PC is a DUD... it's really nothing more than a resource hogging update of Rallisport Challenge that won't even run on my system without some very expensive upgrades, and even then it won't run at a respectable frame rate...

oh and for all you 360 owners, Gamespot reports that the frame rates on the 360 version are even worse than the sluggish frame rates on the PC version...

so for $40 I can own a copy of the PC version and only have to spend $250 - $500 more to be able to actually play it, or I can simply take all of that extra money, add $60 to it, and spend it on an XBOX 360 and the 360 version...

WOOHOO... I'll try really hard to contain all my excitement as my pockets are picked clean for a game that looks like a Porsche, but runs like a Volkswagen!

Its coming from gamefly right now for 360. I enjoyed the demo although the buggy race seemed a bit like driving on ice, however its a learning curve I am willing to overcome because I enjoy arcade racers.

well I finally got to spend a little time playing this game on the PC for the very first time, after waiting 3 months since I bought it for $40 on the day that it was released, not knowing that I wouldn't be able to run it, until I spent $800 on new hardware capable of running it...

at first I was still very upset over all the unexpected expenses and all the hassles involved in getting all the necessary work done on my puter, so it would just run the damned game for me, as once I finally got all the new hardware installed and working properly, the first time I tried to run the game, it ran like SHIT through the intro and locked up my system before I even got to a point where I could actually start playing it... needless to say, I was PISSED...

but I went to the website for the game, and looked to see if there were any patches available for it, and sure enough there was a patch that had already been updated several times... so I downloaded it, installed it, and started the game again to see if the patch had helped any...

this time it ran much better than the first time, although it still didn't run quite perfectly, but at least it was finally running... so I was alot happier with it by then, and I went to the screen where I could adjust the options on it, to see if I could get it to run any closer to perfection...

and the third try was the charm... BIGTIME... as in OMG, WTF, WOW, THIS IS THE SHIT! I'm running it on the highest detail settings possible, with all the special effects turned on, and it's running FLAWLESSLY... absolutely PERFECT images in PURELY fluid motion... and it's running it FAST AS HELL... not a single trace of ANY slowdown whatsoever now...

so now I'm THRILLED will all my purchases... it was all VERY WELL WORTH all the extra expenses... and I CAN HARDLY WAIT to see what all the new games that actually use all the special functions of my BADASS new video card will look like, once they release some, because I got a WAY better new video card than I actually needed to run this one game in particular... so it actually doesn't use ANY of the special functions of the video card that I got... I knew where they were heading with all the new games that they'll be releasing from now on, so rather than just settle for a new video card with just enough power to run the very first of all these BADASS new games of the future, I went BALLS OUT and got the very best video card that I could possibly get for my system right now... it's not the best of the best, but it is the best of the best without buying a new motherboard, possibly a new kind of CPU and a new kind of RAM, and spending $500 on a new video card, cause that's what the very best of the very best new video cards cost right now... so twice as much as the card I got...

and of course I know that they'll be coming out with a whole lot more new video cards soon, that will blow away the card that I got in nothing flat, but that's OK... I still got the very best card that I could get for my system RIGHT NOW, instead of having to WAIT any longer...

sometimes you just have to face the fact that you have to get the shit, or get off the pot... so now I've got the shit... and it really is THE SHIT... so I'm VERY HAPPY with my shit... and if you don't hear quite as much from me as usual for a bit, it's because I'm enjoying my shit...

Well Ive spent time with the pc and 360 games and the PS3 demo, out of the three
id have to say the PS3 version seems more stable, I will still reserve judgment
untill I get the full game next week.

The thing ive noticed is the 360 version actually runs really silky smooth if you play it
at 720p. I played it at home and it was great, I then took it into work and played it at
1080p and noticed a drop in performance. Do MS have some type of deal that you
have to develop your games with 1080p is possible?
Seems quite silly to have 1080p if the console cant play the game properly?

Also, yes the PS3 version probably looks better because it is running at 720p...
