ran it through a quick google translator..

Basically, this worked for Shikigami no Shiro 2, where gamecube got the most votes as the console of choice for their game to be ported to. Hopefully, we can follow suit for the Sega Dreamcast.

How about they port it to a console that'd make money?

Didn't Sega discontinue the manufacturing of GD-ROMs?

Correct.

Also, isn't it true that Raiden 4 may end up on 360?

all of the shooters that came out after 2003 on the Dreamcast have sold out. Look at the sales numbers, theres a huge fan base.

Sure if selling out to a huge fan base = less than 10K copies sold. Isn't Border down only 3K copies?

I love the DC shooters and own 'em all, but the days of GD-ROM games are over. Expect any new shooters to be ported only to newer systems.

Besides, as few shooters as are made at this point we should be grateful that any grace our consoles anymore!

If you really think that hardcore Dreamcast owners who buy shmups imported from Japan is huge fanbase, your fucking crazy. :)

Save for Last Hope, all of those shooters are just quick and dirty ports of NAOMI games. Since NAOMI is practically a souped up Dreamcast, there wasn't much work involved in converting the game. Raiden 4, on the other hand, does not use this hardware, and as such would end up costing more to make into a Dreamcast game. Quite simply the hardcore fanbase that continues to buy Dreamcast shooters wouldn't be enough to make it economical when they could put it out on the PS2 with it's massive userbase, or one of the next gen consoles.

Then why did the developers include the Dreamcast in list of choices? Obviously *THEY* think there might be some money to be made in a Dreamcast port and I'm sure they've thought about it more than you.

I think it's unlikely to happen, too, but I don't go around claiming more knowledge than I have. It's interesting that they included Dreamcast on the list and I certainly answered the poll asking for a Dreamcast version.

As for GD-ROM production, the news bounced around the Internet a few months back that it wasn't going to happen anymore, but there was *NO* source to the story, so I don't see any reason to assume it's true. Though it certainly might be. It might have been true a year ago, too, though, but it wasn't.

Obviously the numbers are relative. Shooters are a niche genre, so the fact that only a niche market buys them is...well, self-evident. It is a fact, though, that a large portion of the shooter market has still been actively buying Dreamcast titles. They're obviously not all exported, either. The majority are sold domestically in Japan. Some are exported. And in both cases, the titles sell well.

...word is bondage...

Aside from the licensing issues (i think yahama owns a patent on the process for manufacturing) it's not really more dificult to make GD-Roms then any other stamped disc.

BTW, love how they misspelled both "X-Box" and "PlayStation3"

The fact that two licensed shooters came out on GD-rom <this year> says it all.

A shooter that's released on the Dreamcast will still sell enough units to be profitable. Simple as that.

I believe Raiden 4 runs on Taito's Type X hardware... looks to be a PC board running XP with a wide variety of hardware options. Perhaps the port wouldn't be terribly difficult.

I do agree that it would make sense to port it to a newer console, though. They would sell more. I'm still voting Dreamcast... I'd love one more to add to the collection.

Dreamcast:bawling: how... I luved ya but I FINALLY had to let go ..it.. was........just ....too..... PAINFULL !!!! (in my best William Shatner impression)

I voted for a Dreamcast port but also - let me duck for cover here- a PS2 port.

yeah I know but I HAD to vote for something that made a little more sense and the PS2 has such an incredibly large install base and still going that it just seems like a better choice overall not even considering the whole GD-rom issue.

I was the LAST Dreamcast holdout for YEARS in my area ( I only knew 2 other ppl that had one) but I finally went over to the darkside and am now fully PS2 compatible even thought the damn PS2 killed my preccccioussss were are now :villagepeople:.

Hell the only games I currently purchase are for PS2 and a few for PC now at least until the next-gen systems have a price drop or two.

oh yea back to the subject at hand.

I officially retired the my Dreamcast last year I know it sounds cheesy but everytime I played it or looked at it really well PISSED ME OFF.

You fellow gamers here at DP know EXACTLY what I mean.

I had the same old thoughts of "how the hell could such a great system be so overlooked and underestimated by the ignorant mainstream:grrr:."

and

" LOOK AT SEGA NOW!:frustrated:"

It was easier to just let it go and move on to at least last gen gaming on my trusty old PS2's.

Wasn't Moss originally intending to release Raiden IV on the Taito Type X2? Since it is a regular Type X title, PS2 port all the way. The Raiden III port was excellent, and this game is twice as good as that one. It even fixes a big nuisance that most people consider a Raiden staple, a lethargic ship.
