Apparently so. As some may know, I purchased a Wii this past Sunday. I also picked up an extra nunchuk and remote. While the remote that came with the unit is fine, the second remote had some issues. Randomly losing sync and pretty noisy (in a quiet room) with the vibrating function.
I inspected both remotes, and they are built slightly different. Where the plastic molding connects it together on the bottom is absolutely different. The FCC ID is different as well. While the "good" remote's FCC ID starts with "UMB", the "bad" remote starts with (get this) "POO"
Well, I went back to TRU, looked through the remote boxes, and found a "UMB" version and all is now just fine. The ID is very easy to see through the package luckily, as it is printed on the left side of the remote.
Could I have just got a dud? Quite possibly. But, this little bit of info may be useful when going out to get a second remote.
