Maybe I'm just being a hypochondriac, but quick question for current Wii owners:

Is your remote sometimes "jittery"? Like, when I move the hand in the main menus, it is not perfectly fluid. If I twist the remote (to have the hand point down) it's also kind of jerky and then pops back to it's normal (pointing down) stance.

Thing is, when I check the sensitivity settings and run the test with the two blinking dots, it looks like it is working fluidly. But again, I was playing Smooth Moves yesterday and was at the point in which the boss of a certain level is a Samurai (where you have to defend with the sword) and that didn't seem fluid at all. I was actually not able to make teh sword fully move to the left at one point.

It's a new system, and I want to make sure I have no issues. Am I worried about nothing?

Yes, that's pretty normal. You can reduce it by making sure you don't have any reflective surfaces or a lot of sunlight in the room.

WarioWare has some games that border on unplayable due to this issue (the mini-game you bring up is one of the worst offenders).

Be careful what you say. The Wii Nazis are reading this post as we speak.

Rule #1...Don't EVER discuss a potential problem with the Wii. As we all know, a design flaw is impossible. The Wii is perfect. It is the chosen console! Nintendo will rise again!!!111!one!

Seriously though...it is normal for the on-screen cursor to be jittery. And yes, it unfortunately affects gameplay from time to time.

I had problems with this as well at first. Basically I found out that nintendo's manual for the Wii stating that you the optimum playing distance is 3 - 8 ft is absolutely on the mark! If you are too close, or too far, then you get the jittery cursor. At this point I play about 5ft from the Wii and have the sensitivity at just above the middle range. Seems to be excellent at this point. However, if you still get to close, then the cursor just disappears entirely.

Yeah first time I hooked up my Wii at a friends house we couldn't point at the TV at all because at my friends house they had some crappy bright lights that the fool refused to turn off... it's not very fun to have to point the remote at a right angle to the screen to get anything at all.

Also on the jitter thing. I get that some but i especially get it if I'm near the edge of the screen with what I'm doing. It confuses me =\

Your TV is broken or you drink too much caffeine. The problem is not with the Wii, it's with you.:fist:

Mine's always a little jittery. I sit about 10 feet from the TV. I should try to sit closer but I really can't be bothered.

Well, I am on vacation and have been drinking quite extensively, so there could also be the possibility that it really is me that is causing a good portion of the jitter :)

At least I know that I am not alone here. I dimmed down the lights and all seems abit better now.

Posted this entire message on the Wii too :) My wrist is starting to give!

Yeah... I have a hard time 'typing' on mine but I sit back about fifteen feet from the TV... I've always thought it was because I have blood sugar problems and do tend to be shaky. ^^; I should try getting a little closer.

Glad to hear it's normal, though.

Maybe I'm weird, because I haven't have a jittery cursor problem. Maybe it's because I have an ideal setup or something.

I had this problem a lot when I first got mine, then I remembered that the blinds were open in the window directly behind my TV. Oops. Cleared it right up. Now I only seem to get it when I am at extreme angles to the TV.

Also check for overlooked RF sources. We were playing Fuyukaze's Wii with a group of people and we were getting all kinds of funky stuff going on. Later I realized that the culprit was the WiFi router behind the set we were playing on. The LED indicator lights on the front of the router were picked up by the Wii remotes camera and it was sometimes reading 5 dots in the calibration thingy. I just propped a newspaper around the front of the router and no more problems.

I initially had my setup further from the TV with an overhead potlight between the chair and the Wii. I especially noticed the jitters with Rapala Fishing to the point where casting was iffy. I rearranged my room setup so that the overhead light was not in the way, the window was not facing the screen and the seating was closer to the screen. No more jitters.

Heh, I fixed this today :)

I dunno why, but the bar works perfectly (jitter free) when placed UNDER the TV. I only did this because I recently picked up the excellent Pelican horizontal Wii stand (posted in another thread regarding that one) and it allows the bar to be placed in it. Well, the whole setup is underneath the TV in the cabinet, and I gave it a go tonight. Perfectly smooth. Could be a light source above the TV interfering, but I see nothing. Oh well, at least I have it working great now. Just a tip for those with the "jitters", move your bar....or maybe just go to the bar :)
