Nothing surprising or new we all knew this was coming.

positive. SCEA (http://kotaku.com/gaming/scea/) president Jack Tretton (http://kotaku.com/gaming/jack-tretton/) said the company is "open to changing the SIXAXIS controller (http://kotaku.com/gaming/sixaxis/tretton-sony-open-to-sixaxis-changes-242071.php)." Similarly, Sony Worldwide Studios' Phil Harrison (http://kotaku.com/gaming/phil-harrison/), instead of denying hardware changes to Slashdot readers, simply said "it's a little too early" to date the return of rumble.
Now Inner Bits, who revealed detailed info on SCEE job cuts (http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/sony-europe-job-cuts-numbered-detailed-delivered-255333.php), say that it's already in the works.
Many have suspected that since the agreement [with Immersion], Sony will have been working on a new controller with rumble support. We can now confirm that this is the case. We've heard from two independent sources at Sony that they have been working on prototypes for several months. Officially, the corporate line is still "no comment". Unofficially, Sony is facing some difficulties with battery life; i.e. Between the rumble and the wireless support, the batteries are draining too fast to be acceptable for consumers.
Bad battery life? Sounds familiar. Hey, Sony, anyone with a Wiimote is familiar with short battery life, so don't let that hold you back. Just pack in a sensibly long USB cable and we'll call it done, okay? http://kotaku.com/

PS3 price drop sooner than expected?:

Howard Stringer (http://kotaku.com/gaming/howard-stringer/)? Not a dope. He knows the PS3 (http://kotaku.com/gaming/ps3/) has a bad smell about it, knows it's not selling too well, knows the Wii is kicking its ass. Also knows the man on the street wants it cheaper before he picks one up. And has told the Financial Times as much

"Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business model, compared with ours . . . because it's cheaper. That [price cuts (http://kotaku.com/gaming/price-cuts/)] is what we are studying at the moment. That's what we are trying to refine."

Doesn't come much more authoritatively than that. They guy runs Sony (http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/). Think he knows what's going on. Comment like that makes it a lock that a price-cut is coming this year, all that's left now is for us to kick back and wait for Pachter to let us know exactly when.

TWO more reasons to wait on upgrading to PS3 PS2 owners.

That price drop better be good. Sony really needs to wake up. We got two monsters on the loose Godzilla (Wii) and Mecha-Godzilla (360)...either send in Mothra or get serious..

I've heard that a $100 price drop is an absolute lock. The question is, is $100 enough to do anything for them. Unfortunately, I don't think so. I think a $200 price drop would work wonders for them, but if they are already losing well over a $100 per unit (even after all the cost cutting measures and the fact they've sold several million units), I just don't see how they can afford to lose $300 to $400 off each one. It might be exactly what they need to do to stand a chance, but do you cut off your nose to spite your face?

I think a price drop of $150 would do a lot, but then again MSoft would just counter. Perhaps MSoft is getting ready for a counter anyway. I've pretty much decided that I'll get a 360 and skip out the PS3 for quite sometime. But at this point I might as well wait for a 360 price drop... :)

Cheers,
Ben

Not to mention, MS is in a better position to do a price drop. If they really want to hurt Sony, they'll do it quick and with no warning.

Wasn't the PSP price drop something minor like $30? While I hope I'm wrong I wouldn't eliminate the possibility of Sony dropping prices by only $50. I mean, why should we suddenly expect a sane decision from them now?

I really want a PS3, but it's just not in the budget until we see a price drop.

*Keeps gaming on the PS2 for the time being*
