My parents bought the PS2 version (which made me very mad because I wanted to play the GC version first) and I played a little of it and didn't like the controls so if this is true it's good news for me.

April Fools! Is it any less believeable than RE2 and 3 for the GameCube?

Might be true, but i wonder if it will looks "omg" much better. I wonder alittle why they do it (if its true of course). Is it to try to copy the GC success of the game?

April Fools!

That would be beyond lame...seeing as its March 30th. Are we now turning April Fools Day into a whole weekend thing?

No...RE4 Wii Edition is legit. I'm calling it now.

A lot of people are, actually.

Look at Adult Swim. They've had on air bumpers all week saying they will have the world premiere of the ATHF movie this sunday on cartoon network.

I don't know if it's an actual april fools joke by the website (re4) but every new thing that just popped up around this time and hasn't been heard of before I shall say "April Fools."

People were thinking the new 360 elite was an april fools joke.... nobody chastised them. *shaking my fist in air*

I'm more intrigued by the other title mentioned in that story (Namco Museum Remix). Unless it's going to be a major compilation collection (thirty or forty games), why bother?

If this does turn out to be legit, I can't see myself having anything but total apathy towards it. Even with an extra mode or two, I'd still skip it just like I did the PS2 version because I played this game to fucking death 2 years ago. And motion controls tacked onto a game that wasn't built with them in mind isn't particularly intriguing to me. Give me something new, thanks.

Extremly true, Ive played this game to death twice on 2 different platforms,
why the fuck would i want to play it all over again!

Things must be desperate amongst wii fans if there getting excited about a port
of a game they played 2 years ago on the consoles predecessor, Wii = Ports.

I am neither "desparate" or a "wii fan" (worst console purchase ever IMO), but I am excited for this release.

Fact: RE4 is one of the best games ever made. I played the hell out of the GC and PS2 versions in 2005...and had an excellent time doing it. I'm even excited for the PC version coming out in May. A budget price, updated re-release is perfect IMO. Also, remember that this is Capcom, the company who invented re-releases. This shouldn't be too surprising.

Well I for one am looking forward to this. :) I've beaten the game around 10 times now and it still doesn't get old when I play through it. If they add good controls to it (something similar to Zelda I guess) it should be pretty fun.

I don't get it. More of the same, but with the Wii control system which you apparently dislike (I know I understand that one), but this is going to be exciting?

Well, I suppose it won't be as utterly heart-wrenchingly terrible as the PC release was.

I hope this isn't the "RE on Wii" that had been rumored for a long time. If so...damn them to hell.

There are a limited amount of games that I would be this excited about. RE4 is one of those games. One of my all time favorites.

The PC version is heart-wrenchingly terrible?! How so? I know that DMC3 didn't translate well to the PC, I was hoping RE4 would be an exception.

This RE4 re-release isn't the one your thinking of. The "exclusive" Wii RE title is called Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.

Apparently the one in Europe is an utter mess, no lighting, choppy graphics, bugs, etc.

I think some textures will be changed to higher resolution. RE4 for GC pushed its hardware pretty much afaik so i dont think the Wii version would look THAT much better, but we'll see. The bonus material that was in the PS2 version will also be included in the Wii version :)

The wii control system works great with party games but I just can't see it working well with EVERY game. Official Sports games (Madden,Live etc) and fighting games are the worst. RE is one game where it might not work out so bad still I'd rather have a standard controller for this title.

This year was the first time me or any of my friends had purchased a Madden game since 92'(genesis). WHich by the way I still think is the best Madden to date. I really like the controls a lot. Really made the experience more fun for us. I have failed to try a fighter for it yet but I am skeptical.

I already own RE4 for the cube but have failed to finish it as of yet. As much as I hate to purchase games rehashes I think I am all over this one. Start it on the cube and finish it on the wii :)

Well, if RE4 works great with the Wii controller then more power to the system. Really only way Nintendo can really tell what works great and what work's like crap with the Wii controller is trial-and-error.

What's wrong with the wiimote + nunchuck for control? I mean how many buttons do you really need? I'm all about getting back to simpler controls and less buttons. I don't need 14 buttons to play a game.

Wow, my love for the Wii has hit the skids in the last few weeks and it has nothing to do with game shortage, but the fact that the games that are being released are ports. It's like, the Wii has four genres going for it now.

1)DS Ports
2)Other console Ports
3)10 year old classic ports
4)Gamecube ports

I mean, when I think of all the games I like on the Wii I'm left with no Wii games. Zelda (GC port), Trauma Center (DS port), Paper Mario (GC Port), Cooking Mama (DS), Wario Ware (DS - yeah I know its original iteration, but still). Why do I own a Wii again?

Not me. The split controller lets me spread out a bit, instead of hunched over my PS2 controller.

To each his own, though.

Anyway, I never bought RE4 for the GC or PC, so I'll be getting this one.

maybe the wii version will controll better, assuming you're allowed to use the remote to aim.

I don't care what anyone says, that tiny c stick was horrible at getting an accurate shot, which to me was a big flaw in a game where getting head shots everytime is almost essential.

Count me in too. I feared this when the Wii came out and everyone was lauding it because of its innovative controller and the "fun factor." The Wii is beginning to become exactly what I thought it would with all of the subpar ports and re-releases. Sure its cheaper than a PS3 or 360, and there a boatload of new releases for it since launch, but this is not what I want to see. This is right up there with the Prince of Persia BS they are pulling on us right now. It's the exact same game that we've already played but now with the gimmicky controls. It seems Capcom is jumping on the bandwagon along with Ubisoft and others by re-releasing a game already developed for the console (Wii = Gamecube+) to make a quick buck.

Why not develop a new game in the series instead? Make something exclusive, or at the very least new. I'm guessing they'll add a new level or some exclusive content to make it look different.

I assume this version will have the 16:9 aspect ratio considering the PS2 version of the game had it and the Wii one has everything else from that version.

I mean, when I think of all the games I like on the Wii I'm left with no Wii games....Paper Mario (GC Port)

Not so fast there...Paper Mario for the Wii was originally intended for the GC, but since early production has been designed for the Wii. You'll understand that fact within a few minutes of playing the game. Don't shortchange this game because of its Gamecube roots.

RE4 isn't the best RE, but that's a thread for a different day. if they add the ps2 content, spice up the graphics for the GC/PS2 contents equally (so some segments of the game won't look prettier than others) AND AND AND add original content - i may purchase it later this year. i'm talking at least 2 new weapons, expanded Merc levels/characters, and maybe like a Luis campaign.

someone on gamefaqs also mentioned a valid option. making a stand-alone Cabin Seige level. the cabin was the best part of the game (aside from the first time you enter the village with your puny pistol). if Capcom threw in the ability to play that any time, with infinite enemies with a time limit or vice versa and having new weapons unlocked as the prize.

so far, i still don't see enough reason to purchase a Wii. i'm waiting to see if Umbrella Chronicles looks decent and for Nintendo to throw in more obscure beat 'em ups into their VC.

Why do they need to remake it???? Why don't they just make a directors cut for the GCN and put everything that was removed from the E3 demo and etc stuff like the babies on fire and random bulls eye effects.

Even Conker had bulls eye effects in Multi player mode why not this game tooX_x

You know that song from the South Park where they said dumb de dumb da would do Justice here.......lOLOLOLOL

ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS GET SHINJI TO MAKE A DIRECTORS CUT EDITION AND MAKE IT PLAYABLE ON THE WII ALSO. It would still be GCN but it would be on the Wii also.......:beaten:

word on the street

pros:

best graphics
more enemies on the screen due to altered camera
ps2 content gets better visuals
cut scenes are real time again
some people prefer the "innovative" controls

cons:

reloading is harder
bosses are easier to compensate
the colors are inferior to the GC version (GC 24, PS2/Wii 16)
some people doesn't like the "innovative" controls
nothing added to the ps2 version aside from the graphical/control changes

I'd say to those who haven't played the GC/PS2 versions and have a Wii, picking up RE4: Wii Edition is a no-brainer. :) At $30 for the Wii version your not saving much going with the GC/PS2 game at $20. For those that have played it, it depends on how much you like the game and the Wii controls. If you're like me (only played GC version) there's more reason to buy it than the ppl that played the PS2 one. I'll be looking to snag one but, I can wait for a while.

I thought the primary graphical difference between the PS2 and 'Cube version was the 24-bit vs 16-bit color, yet the Wii version uses the 16-bit, and it has the best graphics? How does the PS2 content have better visuals?

So those who have played it, and now have the Wii version - Do the Wii's controllers make it any better? Thinking about finally giving it a whirl.

I had never played it either, but I spent one hour playing with the Wiimote and one hour with a Wavebird, and while I'm not really a fan of the gesturing with the Wiimote (you have to shake the remote to break free from bad guys who've grabbed you and in order to pass QTEs -- in other situations, like with reloading and with using the knife, you can press buttons instead of swinging the remote around), aiming by pointing vs. aiming with an analog stick is really no contest.

That said, I'm not entirely enjoying the game -- this is my first console FPS, and not being able to strafe, not being able move and fire at the same time, and not being able to switch weapons without dropping into a menu is a new, and mildly unpleasant, experience for me.

Well, the Wii edition can be controlled by a Wavebird/Classic Controller, so if you don't like the Wiimote control scheme, you could ostensibly just treat the Wii Edition as being the Gamecube version with all the extra PS2 content folded in.

quick question... can you use your gamecube save with the new wii edition?

my disk 2 (gamecube) doesn't work, so I'm kind of stuck at the end of disk 1 with nothing to do.

so I was wondering if I can pop this in and it will act as the gc version. Probably not, but who knows.

No, you can't. You'd have to start over.

That said, I'm not entirely enjoying the game

I think I'm going to take this back. After spending a couple more hours with the game this morning, the controls are feeling a lot more natural (I think this is largely because I changed it to inverted aim, making the process of knifing people on the ground a lot more efficient) and I'm enjoying the game a good deal more.

Good luck picking up a copy. I was unable to find the game last night in a fairly large mid-size city (Madison, WI). Best Buy sold their 40 copies in less than 5 hours...simply amazing. Toys R Us, Circuit City, Target and Walmart all sold out before 7pm (when I checked). I guess all those new Wii owners were itching for a new game. A classic game priced at $30 is apparently too much for them to pass up.

I think my new strategy for future A-list Wii games is to pre-order. As much as that seems absurd...it may be a necessity in this Wii-frenzy environment. You snooze, you loose I guess.

They had at least 20 copies at the Best Buy near my house in the Chicago Suburbs which is always really busy. I showed up around 6 pm and no one was there.

I love how this game always makes you feel frantic like you have to keep moving and watching your back. I can't figure out how to consistently do the "180" move which is my only annoyance.

Same at the Best Buy in NJ I regularly shop at. They had about 20 copies as well....maybe nobody with a Wii expected this round these parts? Glad I got mine :) I also have to say that $30 is the right price. Hope to see more games of this level of quality at this price point in the future.

Or maybe they're just digging a game that isn't $50, as most are. Although I have found some that were cheaper such as Far Cry ($10 - makes a GREAT beer can coaster!) and MK ($30). But usually, if a game is cheaper at this early point in the console's life, well, it is usually a dog. Not so with RE4. A port, yes. But at least it is a port of a good game :)

Played this for quite a few hours today. Man, the controls kick ass! Once you have it down (took me about 5 minutes) it is just the best control scheme. The control is just SO much better with the nunchuk & remote as opposed to the gamepad. Even tho I am not a huge fan of FPS games, I can see that control in these types of games on the Wii in the future is just going to be great.

I was finally able to track down a copy at a Walmart in some hick town we were passing through this weekend. Haven't had a chance to play it yet. Hopefully I will have some time tonight.

This is the fourth version I've purchased of this game (GC, PS2, PC, and now Wii). Not surprisingly, the only other game I have four versions of is Resident Evil 2 (PS2, Dreamcast, N64, and Gamecube). What can I say? It's a great series.
