2-D Contra returns! Contra 4 for DS...

Good news: a new 2-D version of Contra is coming.

Bad news: It's on a handheld.

Tiny little screens and shitty speakers nonwithstanding...this is still cool.

I say good news and oh ho, more good news. ;) Konami still owes us all for Legacy... Shattered Soldier paid some forward and this just might clear 'em out. Nintendo... 2D Metroid please. What a year for games, this fall is gonna kick my ass. :o

Neo Contra wasn't all that good. However Shattered Soldier was.

The game is being done by a handheld developer, known for two other DS titles... Ping Pals and Sponge Bob:Creature From The Krusty Krab. If we run on their previous works, this isn't going to knock peoples socks off. I'll still buy it (since I buy all too much DS stuff) but I don't think this one is going to be all that good.

WayForward is doing this? Hell yeah -- good on them! Hopefully it'll be slightly less scatterbrained than Sigma Star Saga was, but they're one of the few handheld studios out there that always seems to be doing interesting things even with their license titles.

Neo Contra was OK. My favorite aspect of Neo was the ability to dodge/roll to keep from being shot. Otherwise it felt disconnected, like Legacy did, because of the overhead isometric play.

Regarding keeping classic games series like Castlevania on handhelds... it makes perfect sense, business-wise. Look at the Castlevania and Contra games that were released on consoles this past gen. They weren't exactly run away successes, good or bad.

I was thinking the same thing. This has the potential to be the most kick ass game ever made.
