I'm attempting to make a rad princess peach costume for myself to wear at the expo. It's my first big GE, I'm pretty psyched out it (and I’m psyched about losing tons on the roulette wheel). Is anyone else going to wear a costume?

I just wish I were going :(

Nope. In fact, if you do come in costume, I daresay you'd be the first attendee I've ever seen at CGE in costume. Or were there cosplay folks at the California CGEs?

I've only been to some super, extra small GEs like the North West Classic Gaming Expo. I went to a somewhat larger comic con here in Portland and tons of people were in costumes, so I thought maybe with a larger group there would be more cosplay, but I guess it's just a comic book thing then. :(

I'm just tooooo far away now. 9520 miles, by an interweb calculator I just used.

IF I were a smart man I would have coordinated my recent US trip with it. I am, however, not all that smart. :(

Ah well, 2k8, here I come!

Just because no one else has done it doesn't mean you shouldn't be the first. I say, go for it! In support of your decision, I have decided to come dressed as an overweight, middle-aged nerd!

Heh, I'm sure you'd have a lot of success cosplaying as Peach.

And no, I didn't see any cosplayer at CGE 2k5 (the only one I attended). On the other hand, I did see a couple at the first Arcadia fest in Montreal (some kid dressed as the Katamari prince and a few more), not counting professionals payed to appear in character (Lara Croft, Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell).

I'll be dressed up as a DP mod looking through the crowds to eliminate n00bs and trolls. Essentially the costume consists of a DP shirt and a swastika.

Gonna move this to the CGE forum, lets talk about it there.

See? That's me, Bob Polaro (Defender Atari 2600) and Alan Hewston himself at PhillyClassic 3... man, can't believe that was FIVE years ago!!! o_O

Hey! Me too! Let's make sure our shirts don't match because that would be just...weird.

You forgot to mention pants.

Or maybe you didn't forget.

Well, either way, it sounds like you'll be easy to spot.

There were.... all be it only a few. One dude changed outfits each day at 2K4. He was Raiden one day, then Space Harrier guy the other day.

There were a few others, but a few was it.

Gnarly pictures you guys, thanks. Lady Jaye! I love Pitfall Harry!

OK, it's a work in progress but here's what I have so far. I think I may bring the skirt up and I still need the white gloves.

That costume's looking really good, Jeanne. Kudos to you.

If anyone out there wants to cosplay as Master Higgins, I will give you a cookie, buy you a drink, and several high-fives.

Very good costume so far, Jeanne. I especially like the large vegetable prop. I take it that you're cosplaying as the Princess Peach/Toadstool from Super Mario Bros. 2?

I was thinking about going in costume as well, but the characters I want to go as take so much effort to wear;

"Hunk" from Resident Evil 2: The 4th Survivor (mini-game, also the origin of my DP handle) and Resident Evil 4: The Mercenaries

"Kain" from Legacy Of Kain: Blood Omen

"Blue Ninja" from The Ninja Warriors (1987 Arcade version)

"Blue NARC" from NARC (original 1988 Arcade version)

"Richter Belmont" from Castlevania: Dracula X (SNES version)

"Raiden" from Mortal Kombat I & II

"Scorpion" from Mortal Kombat I & II

"Sub-Zero" from Mortal Kombat I & II

There are a few other costumes I have, but they're not video game themed.

I'd cosplay as a Nintendo character, but they seem to be overdone IMHO. Princess Peach, however, has not been done too often, so I'd like to see you in costume. Mario, Luigi and Link are the top three costumes that are recognizable and are done so frequently, that it gets to the point where unless they look like they've stepped out of the video game, it's just another 'ho-hum' type of costume, since the people wearing them don't really put too much effort into the costume itself in the first place.

Take Mario for example; Most Mario cosplayers do the standard - Blue coveralls, red long sleeve shirt, red cap with "M" on it, fake mustache and some standard prop like a toilet plunger. Yes, they resemble the Mario character, but it was a quick and easy to put together costume that uses pieces that are easily bought at almost any clothing or hardware store. In other words, they 'half assed' their costume. Nothing wrong with that, but I feel that if you're even going to go through the effort of going out in public in a costume, go 100%, not 50%.

But then you have the people that actually have the following; The poofy white gloves, the belly to fit inside of the coveralls, the bright yellow buttons on the snaps, the large, detailed mustache, a hat shaped like and fashioned after the video game version and even obscure props such as the 1-Up mushroom, 'Super' mushroom, a 1/1 scale 'hammer' from Super Smash Bros. or even a variation of the costume where Mario is in his 'fire' mode, complete with red & white colors to match, maybe even some fireballs to throw around.

Now those costumes grab the attention of people because they usually don't comprise of pieces which are easily bought in stores.

Your Peach Dress looks great. It shows true effort and you look like Peach anyway. Just don't forget to do your hair up as Peach. That'll truly bring the character to life.

OMG I want whatever that backdrop is. Are those SMB sheets?

I wanted to dress up one year, but I really don't like making things like costumes, or dressing up to stand out... plus the only idea I had was to paint a box yellow, put a magnetic strip across it, make a cardboard "sword" with more magnetic strips and be the Square from Adventure.

Would've been awesome though...

And I forgot about that Raiden... don't think I caught a picture of 'em, thanks for the refresher! And would you count the Mr. Space Fury or the Pac-Man that was lead around the show floor one year (there weren't any eye holes on the costume lol)?

Go for it Ms. Rocket. Your Peach costume looks swell so far.

My son and I don't have costumes, per se, but we wore matching t-shirts to the Oklahoma Video Games Expo last year which lead to fun balloon hats because fun videogame balloon guy saw our matching shirts and realized we were together.

We intend to wear matching shirts again (one pair has Domo-Kun on it and the other pair has Totoro faces). We can only hope for the balloon hats to happen again in some form.

Very nice costume, Jeanne. I trust you are working on some sort of anti-gravity boots/belt/bracelet combo that will allow you to float for two seconds with each jump à la Princess Peach in Super Mario Bros. 2?

I desperately hope that my fiancee will return to the states in time so we can go together in our matching Spider-Man T-shirts. That will be boss.
