Nes, has the best games. I think thats a no brainer.

I'd take out the 7800 right off. The selection is way too small and doesn't represent a wide enough number of genres, and the ones it does do are done better elsewhere.

Even though I think the SMS library is pretty solid with a better good/bad ratio than NES, I'd still probably pick the NES. The selection is so huge that even after you sort out all of the bad stuff you should have more solid titles than the entire SMS library altogether.

Disclaimer: I speak only of the U.S. releases. I know little to nothing of imports and don't care to.

Hah, I actually don't have any of them though I've owned all 3 in the past at one time or another.

I just typed this naked with a towel over my lap.

Also.....I'd take the NES.

Didn't you just create a thread with basically the same idea? Regardless, the NES by a wide, wide, wide, wide margin. Not to say the SMS is bad (because it's not); the NES is just that worthwhile.

As much as I the Master System, I'd take the NES. It has many more classics that I couldn't give up i.e. Contra, Metroid, SMB3, Baseball Stars, etc. I enjoy playing my 7800 and it has some good ones but not nearly enough to survive on.

I have all three systems, but i would go with the NES. Not to say the Mastersystem doesnt have any...the Nes has more and better games..Though i like the Mastersystems graphics better...

I have nostalgia for the 7800 and SMS but there are a few systems I'd take before those two and one of those is an NES. For the record, though, I am interested in getting both systems at some point.

... Yup. I hope this doesn't turn into a trend. :-/

And I'll take my NES due to wider selection.

NES all the way!!!! its selection of good games is bigger than the 7800's or SMS's entire librairies.

Nintendo Entertainment System. Because the games were damn good, high quality video games.

Sorry no more threads about this topic.

I give up , the Master System was the clear winner in my home as a child, but outside, I guess it wasn't.

and if people don't care about what went on outside of the US, with the Master System, then it just makes it even harder for Sega's 8 bit gem to win in here.

but I will not stop promoting, and for the one's thats interested, your missing on a whole lot not looking at games that came out for the system overseas.

So for the ones who care, look into it. The SMS had a great library of PAL games.

I just carefully went through everyone's response and not a SINGLE PERSON had anything remotely bad to say about the SMS. Just because the NES is immensely popular doesn't mean competing systems are not worthy of our attention.

NES. I just like the library, good memories. Played the SMS back in the days as well, nothing wrong with it. Just my favoritie is the NES.
I didn't get the 7800 until 2004. It's okay, but it can't replace my NES. When I go hunting for games, I tend to pick up NES games over all systems.

In fact, I own all three of these systems, but the 7800 is the only one I keep persistently hooked up to the telly, so I guess that answers that.

@ 8bitdude: I strongly suggest you check out the Classic Discussions sub-forum. In any case, use the search function (words must be at least 4-letters long), I'm sure you'll find plenty of SMS-related threads that already exist here.

Why did you start this thread after having an almost identical thread already?

I'd take the 7800 so I could play VCS games. Still a close call though.

Geez man, it's only a videogame system...lol ;) Don't take system wars so seriously! :P

1: Alex Kid
2: none, I hate sports games
3: ditto
4: ditto
5: Ninja Gaiden (SMS version)
6: Super Monaco GP
7: sports games again :-(
8: Safari Hunt
9: R-Type
10: Phantasy Star (hehe)

Seriously, I choose SMS, more quality, more games, more gameplay. But then I'm in Europe where the NES was just shit

I'm in Europe where the NES was just shit

I don't understand how that's possible. I live in the U.S., so could you explain what the NES situation was like in Europe? Were none of the top rated, hit NES games released there? Did you not get to play Super Mario Bros., Contra (Probotector), Mega Man, Life Force, R.C. Pro-Am, Kung Fu, Jackal, Castlevania, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, etc.?

If it turns out those games were released, then what was the problem? Was the NES too expensive there? Was it marketed poorly?

I guess I'm the only one who would take PC (granted I have an internet connection). Mostly, becuase it has such a massive game library. But, if we are talking only consoles, I owuld agree with most of you and take the NES.

Master System because I have a real soft spot for that console. But first choice would be SMS second would be NES.

Many years ago, Game Players once ran a blurb on NES gaming in a few other countries. I can't remember what country they referred to exactly but they said "Super Mario Bros. 3 has just come out in North America but xxxxxxxxx is just finally getting earlier NES games like Super Mario Bros. 2." So I'd say some locations were at least a year or two behind the US in game releases and a few posters here who are outside the US (those not in Japan) will tell you that they probably didn't even get a release for some of the stuff we saw here in the US.

In New Zealand, Nintendo has never been popular at all. The SMS was more widely available than the NES and by the time 16 bit consoles came around Seag was clearly dominating with the Super Nintendo having a tiny, tiny share of the market. The N64 did ok for the first year or so and then it dissapeared from shop shelves and the PlayStation had complete domination. Gamecube dissapeared from most shelves after a few months and specialty shops continue to sell old cube games for more than the latest titles on other systems.

So far the Wii is doing ok, but most shops have stopped carrying the Nintendo DS altogether while the PSP is available everywhere. I have a feeling we may be the only country in the world where PSP outsells DS?

Despite all this, I'm a huge Nintendo fan but finds in the wild don't exist and I have to use Trade Me (NZ's version of ebay) to get anything Nintendo at high prices apart from importing myself.

As for the Question, I would have to go NES although most people over here would say SMS due to many not every having played NES or even SNES.

I'm originally from the UK where Sega was probably more popular again, but it was a lot closer. In PAL territories, especially New Zealand, Nintendo isn't taken seriously and is deemed 'too kiddy'.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutly love New Zealand, it's beautiful over here, the mountain biking and hiking is top notch, the lifestyle is great - it's just frustrating to be a Nintendo fan here. ;)

The NES gave me a woody back in the day. But everything did back in the day (girls, the bus, the wind) but i'll still say the NES.
