I'm searching for videogames with this feature.

I already know of:
-Secret of Mana
-ToeJam & Earl series
-River City Ransom
-Nintendo World Cup
-Super Bomberman series (at least some of them allow you to play the "story mode" together)
-Chikyuu Boueigun (aka Earth Defence Force) series
-Perfect Dark
-Time Crisis 2 & 3
-Gauntlet series
-Sonic 2
-countless sidescrolling beat'em'ups (Streets of Rage, ..)
-Diddy Kong Racing

I'm sure I've missed a lot.. so pls mention as many as possible and what are your favs?

Besides the many side-scrolling beat-em-ups: Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Double Dragon and all of their derivatives, there are many many scrolling SHMUPS that fall into the same category.

From the really old-school, Wizard of Wor, which is either as co-operative or as competitive as you want it to be. Remember the old gamer motto "Never Trust Santulli".

World of Illusion on the Megadrive. One of you plays as Mickey, the other as Donald. And it's a pretty good platformer too.

And having a second person to control Tails on the bonus stages in Sonic 2 makes getting the Chaos Emeralds easier.

First one that came to mind was Contra.

thx everyone, some nice recommandations so far

Soldiers of Fortune

Do you mean the PS2 or Dreamcast version, or both?
Does this support splitscreen, or yo you have to link together consoles?

Timesplitters (3 at least i think) has some Co-Op I believe, Perfect Dark does for sure.

Played River City Ransom a few days ago with a mate and it was all kinds of awesome. Just too funny when you accidantly kill each other.. we were almost engaging in fistfights for real.
Bloody brilliant how many interactive possibilities there are. Ever formed a human totem pole in a 2D brawler? No? Then it's about time!

Uh... what? Soldiers of Fortune is on Genesis and SNES. It doesn't use any sort of link, and the screen doesn't split either -- you share the screen (it doesn't let you wander far off from the other player).

@j_factor:
Ah you mean the US version of "The Chaos Engine", I confused it with "Soldier of Fortune", the Raven FPS.

Hwj_Chim:
Ah yeah, shame this hasn't been mentioned so far. The 2nd Metal Slug is still my favourite.
