1. Shining Force 1 (Genesis)
2. Shining Force 2 (Genesis)
3. Shining Force 3 Part I (Saturn, Parts II, III, and Premium Disk Japan Only)
4. Shining Force Gaiden (Game Gear, Japan only)
5. Shining Force Gaiden 2 (Game Gear, Shining Force: Sword of Hajya in US)
6. Shining Force Gaiden Final Conflict (Game Gear, Japan Only)
7. Shining Force CD (Sega CD, upgraded versions of the first 2 Game Gear Gaiden titles plus 1 extra episode and 1 extra battle, 4 games total)
8. Shining Force: Resurrection of Dark Dragon (GBA, remake of original Genesis Shining Force 1)

I think that is all of them. I'm not counting any game with "Shining" in the title that is NOT a tactical/strategic RPG in the traditional Shining Force manner such as Shining in the Darkness, Shining the Holy Arc, Shining Wisdom, Shining Tears, Shining Soul, or either of the lame Shining Force games for the PS2)

I have heard of a couple of Shining Force games for mobile phones but I believe they are all in Japanese. This means that the last TRUE Shining Force game was #3 for the Saturn (I'm not counting the GBA remake of the original)

My first experience with the series was Shining Force 3 on the Saturn. It was the first game of its type that I had ever played and I LOVED it until I hit a battle I could not win. I gave up years ago but still kept the save on a memory cart. Then I played the GBA game and got hooked all over again, finally learning how to play it in the process. I've since finished it and Shining Force CD. I'm going to start on Shining Force 2 soon (skipping the original as I hear the GBA update is better) and then I'll be ready to try Shining Force 3 again. I'm curious to look at what my old character stats look like after all this time... it's been at leat 7 years and I had no idea what I was doing back then.

Any news on this awesome series? Anyone know if there will be a part 4? How about the phone versions? Has anyone translated Final Conflict for the Game Gear?

I absolutely love the series. Shining Force and Fire Emblem might be 2 of the best tactical/strategic RPGs out there.

You can check out my SF collection here:

It includes every "Force" game from the series. SFCD is a remake of SFGaiden 1 and 2 plus two bonus chapters, so I count that as having the GG ones. Also since the Premium disk isn't really a game, I don't have that nor do I want to pay the unfortunate $100+ price tag for a minty one! :(

Yes they have. Also the premium disk has a patch available.

I saw this list a while back. It includes your excludes though...

I'm a big fan of the SF series, what little of it I can follow, that is. The only one I'm lacking from my collection os SFCD, as I'm holding out for a PAL copy (managed to pick up a loose premium disc for about £15 a while back). I absolutely agree about the Force games being superior to non-Force ones, though I did like Shining Soul on the GBA. :-)

Just wish Sega'd see sense and release a Shining Force 3 anthology... in English... in Europe! :-(

I played around with the original Genesis Shining Force today after becoming very familiar with the GBA remake. It's hard to go back, even on the big screen! The graphics and music take a big hit on the Genny. How does it look on the GBA player for the GameCube?
