What arcade game is this?

Help me out here. Back in the late 80s, the local arcade had a game which I have yet to find in MAME and no name rings a bell either.

It was a sidescrolling game where your knight type person went left to right and fought enemies. The thing that has always stuck out in my mind is that you could angle your shield to block (high, mid, low) and as you get hit, you'd lose different pieces of armor.

That's all I got. Vague, but you guys are like psychics so I'm not worried. :)

Gotta be Gladiator. One of my favorites as a kid.

And it's on the Taito Legends collection. Been playing the hell out of it on my PS2.

I played the crap out of this game for teh whole week it lasted at the arcade. Never did know the name of it until now. I'm picking this title up.
