I looked at the gamestop website to see when Persona 3 is comming out, and they listed it as SMT Persona 3: Collector's Edition. I didn't think they were making a col. ed. but also on the website, it doesn't tell what the difference is between the normal and collector's edition or anything. It said its packaged with an artbook and soundtrack, but does that mean all the copies are going to be special edition? or just for a limited time? anybody have info on it.

Well, when Nocturne came out, there was only a "Limited Edition Director's Cut" for a long time. Also, there is not a "regular" version of Digital Devil Saga 1, only the Deluxe box set. Maybe it is just weird marketing by Atlus?

There is only one version of this game coming out...
Just like DDS1/Nocturne...
And, PERSONA 3 was a great game, I finished the US version the other day... best RPG I've played since DQ8... get it!

Dammit. I don't want to preorder, but that's the only way to make sure we'll get the game.
When is this coming out?

When is this coming out?
July 24th.
I've had this game pre-ordered and paid for since March. Seeing as this is an Atlus title, I'd suggest pre-ordering...but...I've recently been seeing quite a few Atlus titles at BB, CC, Target, Walmart, etc. with some regularity (example: Odin Sphere is simply everywhere right now).
Also: Double Jump Publishing is doing the guide (bonus!).

Lots of "rare" games make it to my corner of the country for some reason. Eh.
I want to preorder it, but knowing Gamestop, they'll cut open my copy without asking. :(

It seems that the "Special Edition" is just the regular game with bonus goodies (artbook and soundtrack CD); I doubt it will be a GS/EBGames exclusive deluxe edition of the game in special packaging like we had for dot hack vol 1. Rebirth; however, to make sure we'll have to have a close eye on this one.

It looks like the binding for the artbook was crap. They have to start production over from scratch. Fine with my anyway...I still have too many PS2 RPG's that aren't even out of the plastic yet.

I'm glad it got delayed cuz I don't got the money for it right now and I know if it came out, I'd be itching to buy it.

Does anyone know what version of Persona 3 we're getting?
I heard there were two releases in Japan (the original and a slightly updated version, kinda like Metal Gear Solid's rereleases). I sure as heck don't want to buy the same game twice...

The US is getting the original version, not the "Fez" update. Atlus hasn't said if we will eventually get the Fez version or not.

There is only one version being released in the US.
Gamestop is just listing the contents separately (as usual.)
The first run of the game, regardless of where you buy it, is the same. :)
Peace,

Pretty sure we ARE getting the update, as once it came out the game suddenly got pushed back several months.

Unfortunately not. Atlus has clarified this several times on the Atlus.com forums. They leave the door open for a future (i.e. seperate) release, but for right now we are getting a localized version of the 1st Japanese release, not the "Fez" re-release.

The one week delay turns into three...hmm. That must be some artbook.

Indeed.
"the package we have spent the last few months designing, one intended to honor the series and reward fans for an eight year wait, would be irreparably compromised if we were to revise or abandon the deluxe package."

I picked up the Double Jump guide yesterday at Gamestop. Since I pre-ordered the game there, they take 20% off the guide. Seeing as it's $20, the discount takes the price down to an Amazon levels.
Anyway, it's a small guide compared to DJ's recent releases (Disgaea 2 anyone?) but it seems full of useful info. The magic and items names are consistant with previous SMT games, as well as quite a few enemies. This looks like it should be pretty fun.

Has anybody seen the large increase of demand for Persona: Revelations on ebay lately? it used to go for around $40-$50 and it has currently been selling for close to $100. I'm still keeping mine. How long do you think that number will be associated with that game?

Yeah, I just noticed that too. It's funny because Persona 2 used to be the one that was worth a lot of money and Persona 1 would usually sell for under $20. The price has been steadily going up though since the P2 reprint and since P3 was announced.
I already have a nice complete copy but I regret not buying more of them.

The amusing thing is that a local Gamestop store had four or five copies of P2 left. And they vanished. The manager doesn't know what the hell happened to them, or the other games that were with those copies (a few Rhapsodys, some Saiyukis, two Gundam games and an Evil Dead game). I told him I suspect foul play.
I was hoping to buy the extra copies so I could buy a copy of Persona 1. :p

As rarely as I buy new games (especially at full price), I'm totally dropping retail price on this sucker as soon as Atlus' store is back up. I'd prefer to maximize the amount of my money that goes to 'em.
Oh Atlus, I love you with mouth.

Persona 3's relation to 1 and 2 is similar to the Final Fantasy games relationship to each other. Magic, items and enemies are similar throughout the SMT series, but the actual plot and gameplay are entirely different. In other words, it doesn't matter if you haven't played 1 or 2.

After playing through Persona 3 I can say there is little to none in the relationship to past games(storywise)..... but there are some funny references to 2..
