OK, from the original NES (or before?) to current gen systems, in your opinion
what is the absolute best in quality and quantity for games that utilize a GUN peripheral? I have no gun peripheral (working at least) so I have decided I want to collect the system and games that will provide me with the best over-all gun shotting goodness! Please chime in with opions and commnets on which system I need to consider and why. Thanks in advance you all rock! \\^_^/:cheers:

I recommend a ps2. You can also play the ps1 gun games too. Heres a list.
Ps1
Time Crisis (Awesome!)
Time Crisis Project Titan (Awesome!)
Point Blank 1 2 3 (Very Strange games...but good)
Elemental Gearbolt (Dude, seriously, talk about hard..)
Lethal Enforcers 1&2
Die Hard Trilogy
Ps2
Time Crisis II
Time Crisis 3 ( haven't had a chance to play yet)
Vampire Night (Pretty challenging gameplay, and a complete one is kinda hard to find.)
Time Crisis Crisis Zone( Its okay, don't pay too much for this)
Ninja Assault( its okay, ninjas with guns is kinda strange)
I'm not sure, but I think Dino Stalker and Resident Evil Dead Aim are light gun shooters too.
Magnavox Odyssey for sure, that rifle kicks butt:

Sega Master System:
Rescue Mission (one of my favorite light gun games of all time)
Gangster Town
Wanted
Rambo III
Safari Hunt (it was pretty fun for a free pack-in)
I did kind of forget how many gun games there were for ps1, though, so I'd be tempted to go with that.

I was going to say 3DO because the FMV sequences weren't too bad with the gun. That, of course, also depends on if you like FMV sequences or not.
After seeing the Odyssey gun, I might be changing my opinion. That gun does rock!\\^_^/

Absolutely hit the mark here. PS2 is the best machine for gun games, bar none. If you go import it even has Virtua Cop 1 & 2!

How can you go wrong with the Coleco Telstar Arcade? It's got Quick Draw. The search ends there.;)

Seriously though the SMS has great gun games and the Light Phaser beats the Nintendo Zapper hands down.

I haven't tried the PS1 or two gun games so I can't account for them. My favorite would be the Saturn. Both Virtua Cops and House of the Dead would be enough, but there are others two. After that, the Master system I think. Gangster Town and Rescue Mission are great and Safari Hunt kills Duck hunt any day of the week .... yes, even Thursday.

This is the honest truth.

Sms would be the best console for light guns. Rescue Mission is just a brilliant unique game, but best of all is Operation Wolf, the sms version is the best home version of the arcade classic.
Dreamcast would be next with House of the Dead 2, and to a lesser extent Confidential Mission, if dreamcast had survived a bit longer there would most likely have been a few more quality gun games.

Yep.
And Dino Stalker and RE: Dead Aim are light gun games.
There are actually a few more PSX gun games, Area 51, Crypt Killer, Project Horned Owl come to mind.

I'd recommend the SMS, as well.
Missile Defense 3-D is another good one that hasn't been mentioned..

Why did I forget horned owl? I have the freaking game! >_<
I've never played a SMS, nor did I know it had a gun with it.

I'd have to say the SMS as well, however if you like nice graphics go with the PS2 and PS1. Rescue mission and Safari Hunt are classics, but if you prefer 3D visuals and whatnot, go for the sony systems.

Considered this, I have a 3d0 and close to all the games, unfortunately I have been unsuccessful at tracking down a working GUN for it at a "reasonable" cost, I often check Ebay but I just can't bring myself to spend more than $70 CAN (including shipping/taxes/conversion)...............
Figure it will be cheaper to go another route..............
But I admit I really wanted to play the 3D0 gun games, it has to be cool shooting "REAL" people instead of graphics..................

The only system that had gun games that I ever cared about was Saturn. Virtua Cop 1 and 2 are just awesome.

i'll go with ps2 on this. best selection so far. plus you can play the games in component if you have a tube television with the cpability. you just have to run the video line from the into the green line on the component connection. it doesnt work for any other type of component tv i am afraid.

Sadly for you US guys Operation Wolf doesn't work properly on NTSC, it crashes after the first or second level. Its an awesome game though, so if your TV can do PAL, mod your console to play it.

Xbox for Silent Scope Complete and the light sniper rifle, there's nothing else like it on other systems. It depends heavily on your accuracy and skill as opposed to other gun games where you can just go trigger happy.
Also there is House of the Dead 3.
