This isn’t a topic of what one is the best or which one is temporarily your favorite because you just got it. This is a simple question of when you’re looking for a retro fix, what system do you most often reach for and what games for it do you play the most? Games like Final Fantasy may be good but when you have 30 min to play, it simply won’t do.
Personally, I still reach for the good old NES. The SNES would be a close second but with games like Super Mario Bros, Castlevania, Contra and River City Ransom, the NES is a great 20-30 min system.
On top of that, which system collects dust the most? Mine has got to be the Master System. I like it too much to sell but a rarely play it.

I've been on a huge 5200 kick all year, so in 2007 I'd have to say that's gotten the most use, and it shows no signs of letting up. Over the last ten years, hmmmm, hard to say. Probably the 7800 since I play my 2600 games on it, too. Second place would go to the Master System - I've always liked the games, and it's a fun system to collect for.
My least-used is the Odyssey2, simply because the left controller doesn't work very well. :( Otherwise, I'd say my Bally Astrocade. Neither gets much use, but at least the Astrocade is consistenly playable so I will take it for a spin every year or so. If they were both in working order I'd play the O2 more (mostly for KC's Crazy Chase).

Master System is the console I play most, it's the only console I never ever unplug from the TV.
My least played console must be PC-FX, those dodgy Japanese FMV games just bore me. Although I'd like to play the more playable games for it some time, like Chip Chap Kick and that shoot-em-up game I forget the name of, shame their not cheap to get.

Most: Japanese Master System, though lately it's been almost exclusively SG-1000 games that I've been playing on it.
Least: Probably a tie between the Channel F & Acetronic MPU1000 - I think they've both been plugged in precisely once.

Least: Game Gear & Gameboy

The most would be the Sega Genesis, if you also count 32X gaming as "Genesis." The least would be the CD-i and that is due to a lack of software.
I keep a checklist as to what I have played recently so I mark a console on the checklist every time I use it. I don't give them equal time but it makes sure I use every single one of them at least once in awhile, even if it is for only 30-40 minutes a month. So I know how often I am playing all of them.

Whenever myself and/or my boyfriend are in the mood to just play something at random, we almost always go with the NES. The SNES gets it's fair share of time too. For stuff that I'm actually seriously getting into, I hop around to different systems, so it would be hard to say something dominates. Probably the SNES and PlayStation would get the most time. I'm always working on at least one Game Boy game, but that's my secondary playing and I'll leave a game untouched for months sometimes. I'm STILL working on Boxxle, and I've been playing that one for probably a couple years now.
As for the stuff that collects dust, well, I must admit that my Dreamcast probably gets the least play. Pretty much every time I turn it on the clock has to be set, and, no, it's not because it's dead. I've barely touched the thing since back when I bought it brand new and played through a few Genesis games on the Sega Smash Pack, and these days it usually only gets use on the very rare occasions when my boyfriend turns it on. I definitely could use a better collection of games for it, but I kinda doubt that would make a big difference for me. I do truly believe it's a quality piece of hardware with great games, but they're not really my kind of style of games so there's not much that would captivate me enough to put serious time into it.
Other than that, my Sega CD doesn't see much action, but that's more because my collection for it still isn't so hot. There are a few games that I would definitely put some time into if I had them, and I really want to get a Mega CD someday to get into importing.
I got other systems that go through pretty long dry spells, but I haven't had them long enough to draw any real conclusions. We'll see how long it'll be before I pull my Virtual Boy out of its box again or if I'll find something on Game Gear that can pull me in as well as Shining Force did.

My N64 definitely gets played the most. Probably about 2 hours a day if you include my friends coming over and playing it with me. No other console really comes close to the amount of play-time my N64 gets.
The least is probably my 2600. I don't think I've played that thing in the past 6 months.

Most played - Genesis, SNES, Saturn, DC - great games, easy to import for, and already hooked up.
Least played - Atari 2600, NES - my NES is a blinky piece of crap, and the Atari is in my closet.

In order for the past couple months:
Genesis/Nomad
Xbox
GBA
Saturn
Dreamcast
SNES (Will move up soon - just picked up some new games)
NES
N64 - I played it exclusively the first couple years it came out, but it just hasnt had staying power with me. It has probably been collecting dust for 3 years or so. I wont part with it as it really got me back into gaming.

Most used is the Turbo Duo. Least would have to be the Nintendo 64. Save for my buddies coming over every now and then for some Goldeneye, I haven't played it in over 3 years.

My SNES reveals the dirty power bars rolling across my screen... and in my mind SNES should be perfect and colorful, so I just never play it. :( NES has the same effect, but it's somehow authentic and still looks great anyway.

Most: Genesis, definitely. Strikes the perfect balance between "quick fix" action games and longer-term games. It also helps that I have more games for it than any other system.
Least: Game.com. I haven't so much as turned it on in over a year. Why the hell did I get one of these?
Second least (because Game.com probably shouldn't count): 7800. The only 7800 game I have that's worth playing is Food Fight, and for 2600 games, strangely, my Colecovision module seems to work better than my 7800.

From the most played to the least played:
NES Top Loader - I've bought over 60 games for the console so far this year, so I've been spending a lot of time trying out the new games.
SNES
Genesis - The system was collecting dust for a while, but I've finally started working on my backlog.
Game Gear - Just bought this last month, and I'm playing through the Sonic games I picked up for it.
Game Boy Color - Doesn't see anywhere near as much play as my GBA SP, but every now and then I'll play something on it.
N64 - Has been collecting dust since the end of last year, and even then, I barely played it. This will change at some point in the future, as I haven't played my copies of Paper Mario, Blast Corps and Rocket: Robot On Wheels yet, and I'd like to sooner or later.

Most: NES
Least - It's a tie. Unfortunately, I didn't quite master how to hook up all my systems on the same TV at once. So N64, Intellivison, and PS1 have not been used. SMS is still sitting in the closet, same with Colecovision.

Most play is probably either the Genesis (I play through Sonic 3 every month or two, and stuff like Dragon's Fury, Socket, and Granada get a lot of play) or the PS1 (so many random imports I can just grab something for a quick blast of crap-3D goodness).
Least is either my NES or my Dreamcast. It's not that I don't have any games for them, I just never feel compelled to actually hook them up. Incidentally, they're the two systems that a friend of mine always keep hooked up for immediate play.
PCE Duo would probably be up there with the Genny and PS1 if I had a larger library for it...

The system that gets the least use is probably the N64, if that even counts as a classic console yet. As for what gets the most use, lately it's been either the Genesis or SNES, though not too long ago it was the NES.

Atari 8-bit (my favorite Atari system)
Game Boy & some GBC
Game Gear
PC-engine (I hope to get back into this I only have Hucard games for now)
Neo-Geo
SMS
SNES
Saturn

Most played: Nintendo 64, I've always loved this system(say what you will), so I still collect for it. And I highly enjoy the multiplayer games.
Least played: GameGear(Don't really like it), PS1(mainly because my PS1 is getting weak, and I just use my PS2 instead to play the games).

I've got a Sega Genesis and Colecovision system (with Atari 2600 adaptor) hooked up and are played regularly. In recent months I added my older Atari 5200 system to that setup (I recently acquired a near brand-new/complete in box 5200 system - awesome stuff!).
Lately, the Atari 7800 has fallen by the wayside (probably for a little while though as I got burned out from playing the hell out of it last year) and the SNES.

The "Mega Drive" gets the most use
and the Famicom AV gets the least use.
I pretty much have everything I want for
teh Famicom, and unless I get the itch to
kick some ass in Downtown Nekketsu Story (RCR)
it rarely gets powered up.
The Mega Drive gets played about 5 times a week.
Usually a few rounds of Turbo Outrun, a run through
of RAMBO III and MERCS, and of course some
shooter action in the vein of Vapor Trail and
Gleylancer, played some Shadow Dancer a few
days ago followed by some PULSEMAN.

Regarding your NES: My NES had been painful ever since I got it. Last Monday I bought a new 72-pin connector (for which I thought I'd paid too much) and found the directions on the intronet for how to install it. By Monday night I was playing my NES again and amazed at the difference in quality. No more corrupted graphics and carts actually worked the first time I put them in (though getting them out has become a struggle.) Anyway, if you have a blinky NES, I completely recomment to "just do it", replace your 72-pins, clean some of your carts and play it again. You won't regret it.

LOL -- I don't know why, but that cracked me up.
My MOST played: when I'm not Chronogaming, then overall I like to get my Dreamcast out.
My LEAST played: RCA Studio II, I'll have to get it out again soon to videotape a bunch of the games being played but I hate to expose my children to such low levels of gameplay.

Most: NES but my SNES could take that title if I had more games for it.
Least: DC. I'm just not a big fan of it right now. I think I need to start looking at some 2D games for it. I know 2D isn't its métier but I'm not digging many of its 3D offerings right now. :(
Most: This one is easy, since about half of my play time recently has been on my Atari 2600.
Least: Much harder for me because I have so many systems that I haven't even touched in months or even years. It's probably NES. Even though I have a handy dandy Super 8 to play it on, I just don't really like the system. Close second would be Dreamcast, though on the rare occasion that I hook it up it does get some significant play. It's just not very often that I'm sitting around thinking, "Must play Space Channel 5!!!!"

As much as I hate to say it, I think my Genesis is my least played system. Other than Sonic 2, there's not really a lot of other games that hold my interest for very long.
My Super Nintendo and 2600 have been getting used a lot lately since I'm building up the collections for both. I'll whip out Kaboom! almost every day and I'm working on Donkey Kong Country and Mega Man X.

Well I think it's a little unfair to post something on this topic since I have'nt played any games period in about a month and a half. Still, here it goes...
Most played: NES
Least played: Atari 5200 (I have'nt played this thing at all, actually.)
