I coulda sworn there was a post like this a while ago but for some reason I haven't found it in search.
Recently I picked up a copy of Forza for the original Xbox that came complete, including a two month free subscription to Xbox Live. That got me to thinking: are there still people playing on the old XBL? Are the servers still going or did Microsoft (since they and third parties pretty much dropped the old black box) quietly turned them off? Anyone here know?

Games have been going offline on Live for years, but most stuff is still up. The ones that ever got many people still see action such as Forza (Why not load it up and check if you have Live?).
Only one I play on that used to be popular that is now a ghost town is Rallisport Challenge 2, and its been like that for a long time sadly.
Not sure if that trial you got is any good though, I think those all have expiration dates on them if I remember right.
My biggest problem is a ton of downloadable content is broken such as in the original XBLA (And has been for a long time) and in several games such as in PGR2 (Took Bizarre Creations weeks to get MS to fix a issue with the Long Beach booster pack not downloading). And this was over a year ago, I can't imagine time has helped the issue any.

For the Xbox games that are compatible with the 360, do they work on live? The Halos do, but KoF2002/2003 and Street Fighter Anneversary Collection are backwards compatable but I dunno if they can be played on live on the 360

Most of the Xbox 1 games I still play, don't have online play.
I still have Forza 1, but I never play it.

Overbite> yes you can play Xbox1 Live games on the 360, but you can only play with other people on 360s. Halo 2 has gone down a bit since the Halo 3 demo came out, but there are still a ton of people playing it. As for the Street Fighter Collection, if you set it up to look for Japanese games, you'll have a better chance to find someone to play with.
I still play on Xbox1 Live. The only game that still seems to be really active is Halo 2, but last weekend I played that, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Star Wars Battlefront II, , Battlefield 2, Midnight Club III and even a bit of Wolfenstein.
I have noticed that the older sports games (as might be expected) have started taking down their servers but other than that, most other games still have their stuff up - though they're ghost towns for the most part.
Though I should note that I usually play on late night (like 1 or 2 AM) so there's people on there from Europe.
BTW, my name on it is EvilNeil. I probably won't have a 360 for another month or 2, so I'm still down for playing on Xbox1 Live.

Uh, you CAN play with other people using standard xboxes if you're on a 360. I do it all the time with my friends. As long as the game is backwards compatible it's golden.

I played some doom 3 on xbox360 BC live. It works as long as its BC and people are still playing it. as far as no comatible XBOX live games on the black box, I couldn't tell ya.

Yeah they can be played on live. Infact, all BC Xbox1 games can be played on live. On some games the dedicated servers no longer exist, but you can always host your own game. I play SF anniversary quite often.

I still play Crimson Skies and a few others on my 360 on Live. Quite a few people tend to join in surprisingly.

Wow, really? Last time I fired up Crimson Skies I had to host, because there weren't any other games, and I left my game in the lobby for nearly an hour and only one other person came by during that time. I liked that game a lot, so I was pretty sad.

Must be the time I play then :) If I start a game I usually get 5 or so people joining in within the first few minutes.
