WOW That gives buyers some serious piece of mind while eliminating the being able to be a target by the competition. I hope the competetors match it.

The catch is that the 3 year warranty only covers systems that have the 3 red lights issue. If anything else happens or you get a different error code, it isn't covered. Still good news though. I was getting ready to purchase the extended 2 year warranty in November when my original 1-year is up. Guess I'll pass now.

Talk about a great reason to buy a new 360.

Sony had these exact same problems with the dreaded PS2 disc read error and did absolutely nothing for their customers. They clearly know a big part of the "game" here is loyalty and trust.

Good going Microsoft, you've gained more of my respect as a gamer and a consumer.

Now if they'd just drop the damn price. Apparently the PS3's price is being dropped $100 according to Circuit City.

Answer them, Microsoft!

Seriously does everybody always have to bash Sony in a topic. :?

I wouldn't call bringing up the Disc Read Error "bashing." Facts are facts after all. Also, I own a PS3 too -- and actually think Sony learned from those problems. I've read the PS3 has around a 1% defect rate -- pretty damn good for a new product.

Did you read that anywhere but a message board?

Yes, please elaborate. I checked CCs website and it's still $599.99.

I wonder if Gamestop will change their 3rd party warranties to be three year as well otherwise is there really even a value to them anymore?

Wow, just wow... There's one reason Nintendo decided not do another big leap in technology.

Ya well, in that case just make it overheat until it does give you RROD, then send it in. :P

Piece of mind for me and my launch day Xbox 360.

But still this is a terrible problem that has plagued the 360 since its launch. I am hope that Microsoft is address the issue with in the console as to provide a quality product and revision it. There are many fellows who are interested in the Xbox 360 but are fearful - a rev level change for better quality running console is a great start to reinforce consumer confidence.

Sony may have been arrogance with the PlayStation 2 but the PlayStation 3 is quality machine with out problem (thus far) not like the Microsoft Xbox 360 problems at it launch.

That's funny I could have sworn that for at least a year or so they would replace the laser in your PS2 for free if you called them.

This is not timely. It's because the rising tide of dying 360's has become a tidal wave. I've been telling 4-8 customers PER DAY that their XB360's are irreparable. My toll free number has been getting nailed with inquiries about Microsofts problem.

This means fewer repair opportunities for OSG, and I'm GLAD. That should tell you how incredibly serious the failure rate is in these. It's unbelievable, and growing fast.

MS would not do this on a lark. They have a BIG problem. They're spinning it. And taking care of it, sort of.

A local game crazy said that they have seen a spike in returns. While I commend Microsoft for owning up to the problem, it just goes to show you how new and inexperienced they are when making game consoles. Hopefully they can learn from this expensive mistakes and make future hardware more efficient.

This is a big sigh of relief. Now my 360 can last all the way till September of 2009 :)

Seems you're not the only repair center feeling the crush of broken 360s. :)

I know what you mean. I bought the MS extended warranty when I got my 360. Essentially my current 360 is under warranty until February of 2011 now! Wow.

I'm bumping this year and a half old thread because Microsoft will now cover the E74 (http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/microsoft-updates-xbox-360-3year-warranty-to-include-e74-error/?biz=1) error under this warranty as well.

I think they better put off releasing the XBOX 720 or whatever they are gonna call it until they start making some money on the 360(Which might mean NEVER, LoL). Seems like anyone who owns one of these is destined to get it replaced at least once, if not more.

Too bad a lot of people who had the e74 attempted some of the fixes without going through microsoft. I have a sytem with that error and took it to a play and trade to attempt to have it fixed with no luck.

If you have had your system for less than 3 years(and you should have unless you got a launch unit) you can still get Microsoft to fix it. Not only that, but if you have that receipt from Play N Trade Microsoft will reimburse you(the article states they will reimburse people but I'm not sure if that only covers people who got the fix thru Microsoft).

Heh, I had an E74 error a few months ago and didn't have any problems when trying to ship it back for repairs. Had no idea that it wasn't supposed to be covered by the 3-year warranty.
