looks painted if you ask me. Note that the box shows a white unit. Still pretty bad ass. I think i'll do it to mine actually.

Yeah, it's painted (dyed, technically) and I sold it as such. Disassembly's a pain on the drive, but it's doable. I did this one to write a tutorial on disassembly of the drive, decided to dye it and sell it once I was finished.

I'm guessing you're looking at the drive door, which is actually just the chrome reflecting the carpet in front of the drive ... not a hole.

Thanks, I definitely like the look of the black remote, too. There are some "real" black drives (http://blogs.msdn.com/andypennell/archive/2007/02/15/xbox-360-hd-dvd-drive-now-in-black.aspx) out there, probably numbering in the dozens, that were given to the HD DVD product team.
