Etrian Odyssey (DS) and Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land (PS2) are recent, but are their any others I'm missing?

Deep Labyrinth on DS. Not anywhere near as hardcore as Etrian Odyssey, but it's fun and should be dirt cheap.

I heard the Xbox port of Arx Fatalis sucked, but there's always that!

quick edit - and holy shit do you need to play Mazes of Fate (http://mazesoffate.com/) for GBA.

I played through Oblivion almost exclusively in 1st person mode, and it's an incredible game that works really well tbat way.

Not sure about the Xbox port but just picked this up on Steam for $5 and it's one fine little game. Awesome atmosphere!

Dark Spire's one. Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey is going to be one as well. It's being released sometime in March.

If anyone cares, two years later, the DS port of Mazes of Fate is really good. I also like Orcs and Elves for DS. There's a Fighting Fantasy game out now that fits this mold. I haven't played it, all I know is that it didn't get the greatest reviews.

I kind of liked the Xbox port of Arx Fatalis despite some technical flaws, but it would certainly be easier to get the PC version now. The only thing that's putting me off getting the PC port is I'm not sure it has the "arcade magic" feature the Xbox game had that made casting magic easier. If I have to draw those stupid fidgety symbols every time I cast a spell, even with a mouse, then no thanks.

Been out for some time now but I'd highly recommend Wizardry 8.

In defense of Fighting Fantasy all the company reviews were weak, but consumer reviews for the most part were really good.

I might try it, then. I only got ahold of one of the books when I was a kid but I remember liking it.
