Anybody plan on playing some Texas Hold Em after CGE? What are the good casinos for it?

If we get a game going or just grab a table at a casino, count me in. I love playing, but never get a chance. Lets plan on a game, we could have an annual touney.

Depending on the cash flow, I may be able to play. The Riviera has a poker room it seems:

I've actually done a little research on this (checked a few reviews and all), and personally I'll sit at the Riviera's room early on... but from the reviews I've read I can't recommend it. A lot of complaints about the dealers, and it appears the room is just a roped-off part of the casino.
I'm hoping to get some time at the Treasure Island rooms, they're supposed to be beautiful with good dealers, good customer service and a nice, off-the-casino room. But as for Thursday night I'll probably just sit down at the R, so if anyone would like to sit with a CGE d00d I'll be there. :)

We should set up a little "home-game" in one of our hotel rooms one night with a few guys/girl's. You know, something friendly. I'd be down like a clown for that.

Well, the World Poker Tour (WPT) got started at the Bellagio and Binion's was the birthplace and home to the World Series of Poker (though I think it's now played at the Rio), so those'd be a good place to start for "official" poker rooms. But I'd much rather sit down with a deck of cards and a stack of chips in a smaller "private" setting too.

The Aladdin used to have a good poker room. Now that its Planet Hollywood, I am not so sure. Bellagio, Mandalay Bay and Wynn all have nice Poker Rooms, but of course the buy-ins are probably going to be a little higher. Anyone try MGM, Bally's or Paris?
The problem with getting a game going in the room is you'll need a local to bring some chips, or someone will have to buy some at a local Walmart or whatever.
I'm in for a game at the Riveria. I'd say you get 10 DP members and start your own table.

I'd be so in. If I had more space in my room I'd offer my temporary pad, but hell... it might be enough space. I'd need a table though.
Typically the no-limit buy-ins in casinos are about a hundred dollars, blinds 1/2 (the minimum buy-in is $100, max is $200), and we can play that way if everyone's up for it (if anyone wants it in a card room). Can't say for every room, but from what I've experienced that seems to be the norm. But for a smaller game, say twenty bucks each, I'd be up for that, most definately. Just friendly with friends. Right on. :-)

I have a travel poker set (cards, chips, etc.) that I'd be happy to bring out for the occasion. In fact, how about getting it started at the DP Saturday Afterparty?

Right now we have 12 players:

It sounds like a couple of you guys are "probables" and someone may not show. I think the limit at a table in the casino is 10, but I could be wrong. Anyone know?
WizDawg

I think the easiest thing to do is get a no-limit tournament going at the after party. It would be easy to setup and get going. Just bring some chips and cards and have like a $20-30 buy in and set rounds to like 15 min and the game should last 1-2 hrs. Then if there is more interest we could play another game. It might me hard to get a cash game going in the casino with all of us at one table. It may be possible if you asked the floor manager but I've never seen it done except on High Stakes Poker. :)

Hell, if anyone's had anything to drink... there's always "I Dare You" kinds of poker too... for when everybody's broke. Heh...

Just a tip for anyone playing at the casinos, the Bellagio, Mirage, and Caesars Palace are generally the favorites for poker players.

Here's the deal: I'm bringing my travel poker set, chips, and two new decks of cards. I'll be at the Saturday night DP after party. I would think that a table and several chairs would be enough to get us situated. I don't feel that hitting the casino floor for our poker game is such a hot idea.
So, that's the plan, as I see it. Show up at the DP party. I think a $20 buy-in is a good idea. Not a huge amount for most, but it'll add up considerably if we have 10-12 players. If we have 10 people playing, we can have a nice little 3-way pay-out: Winner gets $140; second gets $40 (double payout); third gets his $20 buy-in back.
Or we can play winner takes all. :D
So how's this sound?
Jumpman Jr.
07-16-2007, 11:28 PM
I agree with everything Sniderman says.
Top 3 pay-out is usually the best way to do it.
Not that it really matters, cause I'm going to win anyways.

The bracelet winners are the WSOP, not the WPT... they get trophies and nice new chip sets... though I could bring a Dragon Boy to see who might like a prize...

EDIT - NEW INFO : OK then. I'll have the cards and chips. Make sure you get your ticket to the after party or you won't even be allowed into the room. (See the After party thread for info.)
Because I only have a 200-chip set, it's gonna be tight initial stakes for 10 players max. (But as folks begin dropping out, the chip spread will open up.) A $20 buy-in gets you $2,250 in chips in the following per-player ratio:
10 - $25 (yellow/white)
5 - $100 (red)
3 - $500 (blue)
We'll be making change more than once in the first few rounds. Big blind/little blind starting at $25/$50 with doubling increases every 10-15 minutes, depending on table vote once we get together. Dealer rotates. First/second/third place payouts of:
First - $140
Second - $40
Third - $20.
Because of the smaller initial stakes, we should be able to swing 2 or 3 games that evening. Old players are welcome to switch out for new players between games.
And, finally, the first game of the night will also have one other important item at stake. What could that be?
;)
See you in seven days, folks.

Someone post the top three winners when they get the chance please. I was sooooo fried at the end, I walked out without taking note.
And Wizdawg, PM me your address and I'll churn out a DP/CGE Texas Hold'em Champion wall clock for your gameroom. ;)
Next year, we're starting with much smaller chip counts. When the blinds increase to 3,200/6,400 and the two final players aren't even worried about the ante, you KNOW you have too many chips in play!

Thanks for all the hard work and planning. I thought the game went great for a first run. A few tweaks and we will have it down. I was second, although I still can't believe how it happened. ;)

I managed to squeak into third after losing my lead in one massive blow. I really enjoyed the game, many thanks Tim for putting it together! I have just a few small suggestions, if I may: A lot of casinos will host your game for a small fee, which might be a fun way to have a vegas-style tournament with professional dealers for a small fee per entrant. Also, a payout structure that is more flat might help to engage players (especially those who don't play regularly) more, since there are more winners.
Those suggestions aside, it was a ton of fun, and I look forward to next year's game!

As the last players who held out know, the winner (Wizdawg) won not just the money - he also won a framed DP/CGE Texas Hold'em Champion Award. And, as promised, this also will become a regular yearly prize:
