Another year, another E3!

MS has already made some big announcements:

Gears of War and Viva Pinata coming to PC.
The Halo 3 Limited Edition 360
HUGE holiday lineup.

I think MS really dropped the ball on this one, it was pretty non-eventful. I don't think it was a surprise to many people that Gears got ported to the PC. My favorite was the RE5 teaser. :)

I would have enjoyed a price drop or hardware revision. Oh well, once Halo 3 comes out, it wont matter. I am glad that Mass Effect is coming in November. That game is gonna rock!

I think ms did a good job for their press conference. They really didn't shoot themselves in a foot. While not having a price drop is disappointing, having new xbox live titles shown, and downloadable movies are good moves for them depending on what movies are released. I was stunned with microsoft announcing a Viv Pinata: party Animals being released after the first one was a disappointment.

Best part: Resident Evil 5 teaser trailer. It looks like part of the story takes place in Haiti (i.e. voodoo theme). I can't wait!

I think M$ will be ok, they have no need to drop the price of their system right now, but E3 isn't over yet, they could still have some tricks up their sleeve. Also Assasins Creed looked great!!!

All in alll I think it went well. The problem I think is when companies try to bring all developers together in a scripted event it makes it seem clunky. Toss in big wigs with no acting experiance and this is what you get.

The show seemed to cater to the developers by posting sales and top 10 games. The upcoming games look really great I love the re5 trailer and cAll of duty was looking more like ghost recon\brothers in arms.

I think the halo 3 360 is over the top. There seems to be a strong pimping of the halo brand. Zune, helmet ,now 360.

I hope it is regular price with the halo 3 as a packin. Left for dead and creed also looked good. I still don't understand the whole gears think it was all about the pc so I found it odd that it was getting play during the 360 time. The fight looked good though.

Well nintendo is up now. Quick question does anyone play the wii like they show in there commercial. Ex. I remember seeing the sword 4 player mode commercial where people falling all over the couch. Just over the top. Jumping all around with abunch of friends and such. It seems like the commercial fun is canned. (I know it is just a commercial) I seem to concentrate more when I play.

Great system though. I just have an issue with the commercials I treat it like when someone is being fake with you.

I need a bigger house to get that wii fit hookup.

nintendo is done with hardcore gamer. no more. nintendo dosen't really focus on original gamres anyway. thay are frachise whores. yet they keep getting credit for creativity and inovation. nintendo's inovativ game days ended with the 90's..... sad but true, so far.

yeahn it sode seem like wii is 98% super casual/kid/family games. nintendo had to change thier game plan to survive. it's just that simple. we will be rather fortunate if galaxy is half as good as mario64. I grow up a nintendo fan and I own a wii but I'm far more interested in rare games lately that anything nintendo can pump out. Banjo kazooie3 will own you mario!! :D

My feelings after watching the press conference was that Nintendo has pretty much turned their backs to the hardcore crowd. Even though they kept saying they haven't.. blah blah blah. I thought it was funny when Reggie pulled out the wheel attachment and there was total silence. (we've seen one of those before Reg!)

However, I did like the gun attachment. And didn't he say that it would be bundled w/software at $19.99? I don't think he said it would be $19.99 by itself, but I could be wrong.

Not announcing a HDD add-on or doing something about the lack of "channel space" on the UI was pretty disappointing too. And that new Mii channel - totally lame.

I agree I think nintendo is trying to survive. Anyone know what time is sony up. I am trying gauge my dvr.

Now I see why the 360 won't drop the price. Why? Ps3 is still 500.00 unless it was packed in with msg4 and released in august at that priced.

I am surprised that alot of neg comments about halo 3. Bungie has proven 2x that they know what the fans like but why are people nervous? WHat sells halo more graphics ,story or gameplay?

Nintendo hasn't answered a couple questions like will the wii zapper, and the wii wheel be compatable with virtual game console games. The wii wheel could be a big hit, it is used right. The wii Zapper can be a big hit also depending on the games. The wii wheel reminds of how game players used to play racing games in the arcade. The new mii is isn't a big deal and I wish nintendo gave consumers when in the summer time the Neo geo virtual game console will be released.

Does anyone know how WiiFit is supposed to make you fit?

After watching it all I saw was a really lame/slowassed step up of about an inch maybe. Oh yeah thats going to really burn those calories. There were the push ups and then that leg thing the first woman was doing. Where is the strength training or any kind of cardio? It looks like something for the old folks homes where they have been playing Wii bowling.

scooterb23
07-11-2007, 01:55 PM
jcalder8 - people got fit playing DDR, and that's not even stepping up an inch, that's just stepping side to side really fast. I'm sure that will be in there...or alternately, you could probably prop the balance board up about 4-5 inches and get a real step aerobics feel.

They said there will be over 40 Wiifit games on the disc...so surely there will be more strenuous things.

I'm interested in it for sure.

Nintendo is forgetting about the hardcore crowd? Metroid and Smash Brothers are coming out this year!

Any time Nintendo can get mainstream press in a room they will pimp their casual games. You should expect that more from their conferences from now on. But I don't think it means that they've turned their back to the hardcore.

To say nothing of Zelda, or Mario, or that medal of honor game, or mario kart, or any of the other "hardcore" games they've got coming out :P

Honestly, the only casual games they seemed to mention were like, wiifit and brain age 2.

The only problem with Metroid 3 will be no online play. Alot of people were expecting it, and when they announced there would be no online features, that hurt.

The DS had it, why not the Wii?

But anyway, the good thing is, they can concentrate on the single-player expierence more, and hopefully make it play a little more like the 2-D Metroids, with more emphasis on exploration than shooting everything in sight..

I agree that Nintendo releases a lot of sequels and that lately they have been releasing or showing some simple non-gamer games (honestly, they aren't making many of those).

But, Nintendo also makes NEW games (Super Princess Peach was amazing, Mario & Luigi is an amazing series, Pikmin is amazing [that style of game is just unappealing to a lot of people]). To Nintendo haters the only ones that stand out are the non-gamer games and sequels. To the Nintendo lovers the only ones that stand out are the NEW ones and sequels.

I think Nintendo makes new series more often than most gaming companies. They are a big efficient company that takes their time when making games so that's going to force fans to wait a long time for a new series. I can't remember how many times today I've read something like "Have you seen the new Resident Evil 5 footage" or "I can't wait for more information on Metal Gear Solid 4". I'm not saying all of those same people have a Nintendo sequel hating mindset.

BTW, I aint no Nintendo fanboy. I hate the Metroid, StarFox (except Adventures), and Kirby series. I half-like Super Smash Bros. I own a Wii with 2 games (Paper Mario and Zelda) but own 8 360 games and will be buying the system Friday probably. I'll be buying a PS3 next along with Untold Legends, Resistance, and the new Ratchet. I'm only looking forward to 1 Wii Nintendo game (Mario Galaxy), 5+ 360 games, and 4+ PS3 games.

All three companies have their good and bad, people just have to have an opinion or some group to agree with and follow or they will explode. I'm no different, I'm with the people that like and respect all three companies.

There's something I've been meaning to ask the people at this board. Were there any people talking negative about the N64 stick when it was first shown? Also, were there any people talking negative about the handles on the Playstation controller (if they showed their controller before Nintendo did)?

To stay on topic: I can't wait to see what new games Sony shows off (more RPGs!!!). I expected a new Nintendo game to be announced today but I guess that didn't happen. Maybe tomorrow or Friday.

Sony's was so-so with their briefing. I expected ps 2 games to shown at sony's briefing. With the ps 3, there were too many games that were for 2008. There were 3 for the holiday season, but the heavy hitters like Killzone 2 are for next year. Their new psp model didn't impress. I know it a new psp in abundle for $200.00. There some titles that were impressive for system like Final Fanrtasy Tactics: War of the Lions.

I have a big grip with sony's claims of 3rd party games that are exclusive when they weren't like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Assasin's Creed. I saw the entire briefing on G4 and by the way sony was talking, it sounded like those games were exclusives when there not. I saw on them during the briefing for Microsoft.

Sony did do a great announcement with ut3 being an exclusive. I do think that will being an exclusive for a short time though.

Yeah, but every Mario Kart has been a genuine, A-list classic. Only Mario Kart 64 was somewhat questionable...and even that is still one of the best N64 games of its era.

I've been looking forward to new non-handheld Mario Kart for almost 4 years since Mario Kart: Double Dash. (best entry in the series IMO...although it seems to be the minority opinion).

As mentioned, i doubt this will happend, especially since Jack Tretton underlined that the game was PS3 exclusive at the PS3 conference. I think Sony would be informed by Konami in advance if the game went multiplatform. If this was the case i doubt they would have said it was exclusive for PS3, then some hours later Komani announce it for 360 without Sony knowing it.

My biggest gripr about the show is that most of the games shown/announced are repeats or have been in the mags for months.

Silent Hill 5 is really the only game that I had not read about. It was great to see footage of many of these games though.

I am very hopeful for Assassin's Creed. It had an Oblivion sort of flavor to me; I just hope it is a long game. Haze looked like fun. It appeared to have faster action than most fps's.

Blacksite Area51 did not get enough face time...

Nintendo announced a bunch of titles that were supposed to be out last year at launch and patted themselves on the back for attracting non-gamers to the market.

Good stuff at the conferences, just few surprises, possibly because of the format change.

I couldn't agree more.

Also, the Wii going by without a Mario Kart would be a HUGE missed opportunity. It's not SSB Brawl, but as long as Nintendo leaves out the snaking and doesn't mess up the online play, it'll be good. But I would be surprised if it topped Mario Kart 64, which was definitely the pinnacle of the series.
