I was very interested in Mario Galaxy, which is why I originally bought the Wii. No games that really made me look twice at them is why I sold the Wii.

After watching that video, I hvae lost all interest in Mario Galaxy. Yes, I'll probably rebuy a Wii for it, but not until it's much cheaper.

Pros of the game:
1. graphics that finally look better than gamecube or xbox

Cons:
1. nintendo should have had real HD support, because if an xbox could handle 720, so could the wii.
2. the game doesn't look like it has depth. new super mario bros. took the series back to its roots, and it was fantastic. this looks like a whole lot of nothing. of course we'll have to wait and see, but the best part about mario are the levels, and flipping with weird camera veiws between planets, doesn't seem like levels to me.

agreed. I have never thought this sounded like a good idea. I hate the levels in mario 64 where you're jumping from one floating thing to the other, and Galaxies looks to be nothing but that. I don't want to be planet hopping the whole time, I want levels!

Between Metroid, Mario and SSBB it's going to be one helluva 3 months. Why do I own all three systems? I don't have the time nor the $ to play everything!!!

When in the E3 show, they said Super Mario Galaxy was "the first true successor to Mario 64" that's the moment I lost any enthusiasm I may have had.

Heh, I'm hoping that's true. While I remain skeptical, that quote re-doubled my enthusiasm for the title.

I get more of a Mario 64 than Sunshine feel to this game, and that's a damn good thing.

Am I actually gonna buy a Wii? Hmmm, maybe.

I watched it again, I must have looked away when the fly suit was on, that does look cool. My opinion has changed again, from a "it'll probably suck" to "don't get excited for it, just hope it's better than you think it'll be."

The 'big' first party titles are the only Wii titles that seem to have any appeal to me; not even the Resident Evil game on the Wii could impress me after the preview of RE5.

I would love to see Galaxy bring back the Super Mario 64 appeal...

Super Mario Kart could be amusing...I'm betting it will never make a 1st Quarter 3008 release but instead will be a holiday release next Christmas and Nintendo is just making more false promises.

Funny, I bought a wii for Super Smash bros. Brawl.

And also, I wish that super mario galaxy were a true successor to Super mario world. :/

I ended up selling my Wii last nite. I had recently tried out a bunch of recent Wii games, like Pirates of the Carribean (for the kids), RE4: Wii Edition, Harry Potter and Scarface. After playing those games for a bit, it quickly dawned on me that the Wii was never going to work out for me. My interest in the waggle control faded several months ago, and the crappy graphics and mini-game fests, just no longer hold my interest. I feel like I'm stepping back in time when playing the Wii. One thing you don't really want to do is play the free demo of Pirates of the Carribean for the Xbox 360, and then play the Wii version. When I started playing the Wii version, I was wondering if I was playing a freaking Nintendo 64 game.

I did have fun with Wii Sports, Wii Play and Super Paper Mario. I had a bit of fun with Rayman Raving Rabids. Other than that, to me the Wii was a total bust.

Having said all of that, I'll probably buy a Wii again when they are $99 or less. But at the current prices, and the money that I sunk into the whole operation, hell no. I had to try to sell now and get as much money back from all that crap as I could. Cut my losses.

Is it just me or does that look...hollow and boring. It doesn't seem like it will feel like a Mario game at all (I can't say that definitively, having not played it).

Also, it looks mind-bogglingly easy. Sure, I assume they got someone good to play it, but still, there seem to be very few enemies in the game. And that cursor would drive me nuts. Hopefully it doesn't make noise like the one in Zelda (one of the reasons the Gamecube version of the game was much better, IMO).

This just reinforces my opinion that the Wii will have nothing that would hold my interest. Now we get a game with the Mario name that's nothing like the other games in the series (at least Mario 64 was somewhat similar) that just looks to be nothing but a jump-fest. Add that to tons of mini-games, Gamecube ports, and spinoff titles, and it's not likely I'll get a Wii any time soon. Maybe when I can find them for $30 in a bargain bin.

I'll hope against hope that it or something else on the console will interest me. Hopefully SSBB isn't just more of the same.

It just doesn't sink into people's heads.

Now is not an indication of the future. I'm so glad you said "hope" in your post.

Haha, let me get this straight. It isn't like the predecessors, yet it's a jump fest.

You HAVE played a mario game before, right? Jumping is pretty much all you do.

And last I checked people liked their sequels to be doing something at least a little different.

Best looking Wii game so far, no doubt about that. The use of colors and style is amazing, looks great! Also the fur on the queen bee looks amazing! (you'll see it in the movie posted above) :)

that video that jajaja posted looks a ton better than the other stuff I've seen. you actually get to see a world. all of the other videos made it seem like you were planet-hopping the whole time. it's nice to see that it's retaining a little of mario 64.

Absolutely agreed. This is the first video that shows an explorable planet, which Nintendo had hinted at previously.

However, more suprising and interesting is the return of "suits." Mario is able to get a Bumble-bee suit that lets him fly for short periods of time. And, it almost looked like it gave him some projectile type attack.

Maybe we'll see a return of the racoon or tanooki suits? Here's hoping...

Based on the latest gameplay trailer...Galaxy looks great. After this and SSBB are released, I might actually feel like the $250 I spent was worth it.

One thing some may have missed was Reggie's veiled slam of Super Mario Sunshine during the Nintendo press conference. He said something to the effect of Super Mario Galaxy being "the first real successor to Super Mario 64". I've always been a big fan of Sunshine and will never understand the negativity and outright hatred the game receives to this day. Super Mario Sunshine was a great game...deal with it.

I enjoyed Sunshine quite a bit as well. The problem I had with it was that to collect all of the starshines you had to do a bunch of level repeats and go through a ton of insane jumping levels. i gave up when I got to that point since I had already beat bowser.

To me, Super Mario Galaxy looks like it's almost entirely comprised of those secret "insane jumping levels"...the ones where you lost the F.L.U.D.D. and had to go it alone. I loved those levels. They were sometimes infuriating...but still fun at the same time.

I'm really glad someone feels the same as I do, because I have had to defend Super Mario Sunshine for years. I actually played it before I ever played Super Mario 64 to any great amount (I know, blasphemy) and loved it. I was actually pretty dissapointed with SM64 because it seemed like such a step back after I played Sunshine.

If you take the F.L.U.D.D away from the game, I'd agree with you. I tried to like this game, I really did but the emphasis on the cleaning turned me off. That camera system didn't help things either. Compared to Mario 64, the game felt like one big side quest.

Meh,
If I could play it with a regular controller I may be more interested. I don't think I'll ever end up owning a Wii, I really hate that controller.

Mario Sunshine gets dumped on because it brings nothing new to the table. Mario games are known for setting the bar for platform games. Mario Sunshine was a decent game but wasn't really any better or worse than most of the other generic platformers on the sytem.

Wow, I didn't know it was delayed another 1000 years. ;)

I'll still just wait and see how it plays at a friends house. Everyone I know with a Wii is buying this game.

You HAVE played a mario game before, right? Jumping is pretty much all you do.

And last I checked people liked their sequels to be doing something at least a little different.

Alright, let me clarify. Here's the gist of the original Mario games:

run, jump, jump, run, run, run, ZOMG AN ENEMY!!!, jump, jump, jump, run, run, run, PIPE!, run, jump, jump, run, MORE ENEMIES!, jump, jump, OH NO A TURTLE SHELL'S COMING BACK AT ME!, jump, run, run, BRICKS!, jump, jump, jump, FLOWER POWER!, run, run, ENEMIES!, shoot, shoot, shoot, run, run, jump, jump, jump, FINISH! OH, AND LOOK, FIREWORKS!

And here's what that first video looks like (the gameplay video isn't loading for me, unfortunately):

jump, jump, jump, jump, walk briefly, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, fly past potential enemy, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump, jump....

See the difference? :P

Okay, what I'm trying to get at is that from the first video (again, the second won't load for me), it looks like there's no variety to the gameplay...all it shows is you planet-hopping (actually, I'd just call those asteroids). And, how does it even make sense? Mario can survive unprotected space flight? (What's the story behind the game? Do we know?) I know it's just a video game, and it's not like the originals really made that much sense either, but all the planet jumping seems a little sharky, if you catch my meaning.

That's why I'm so puzzled that so many people are excited about it. Doesn't look like a Mario game besides the design of the main character and the title.

OK I KNOW Ill get flamed for this but here goes anyway.

Im not really that impressed by Super Mario Galaxy.

Let me explain: SONIC EXTREME on the Sega Saturn does that ring a bell?

I know a few ppl have mentioned this before but Super Mario Galaxy looks to be an near exact update of SONIC EXTREME just watch the gameplay vids from both games and its obvious.

There are really very few differences from the two games other than updated physics and graphics.

OK im finished now hope I didnt make any new enemies:p

Now that I've owned one since launch and had a chance to try it out with many types of games, I feel the same way. For the minigames and the Wiiplay and WiiSports, it's great. For platformers and just about everything else, i hate it. The classic controller sucks, too. I haven't even turned on the Wii in a month and just decided to sell it.

I also think that I have also moved past Nintendo at this point with all the repeats of the same old stuff. That new Metroid game looks like the other 2 and I just cannot bring myself to playing another one. And, yes, I'll admit it, I hate 3D Mario games. I wish they would have announced something new and exciting at E3 but it was just more minigames and Mii-centered stuff like Wiifit.

There's just something about the gameplay ....

Even if you're not into videogames it's -- in my opinion -- hard ta look at the video & not smile from pure delight !

I, too, hope it's playable with a standard controller.
