View Full Version : Most hated enemies in a game?

I have a few off the top of my head;
Comix Zone: Styx the Monk (The enemies with the long stick.)
Donkey Kong Country 3: 1. Koindozer. (An enemy with a shield, that charges at your to push you into danger, or off a ledge.) 2. Krumple. (The giant kremling that you on only kill by jumping on him with Diddie Kong.)
Super Mario World: Chargin' Chuck. (He only really annoys me in certain levels, for the most part he's pretty easy to avoid, but certain levels where your in a cave and you need him to charge threw blocks to continue on in the level. Those are the level's they annoy me in.)
Super Mario 64: Bowser. (I've been playing this game on and off for a decade now, but I'm still not very good at throwing Bowser into the bombs. For some reason I just cant get the hang of it.)

Now this is my newest annoying enemy that I hate and as of now he's at the top of my shit list. Becuase I havent been able to beat a certain level for two or three days now.
Viewtiful Joe 2: Ninja Robots. (I've been playing Viewtiful Joe 2 for a week or two now, and I'm on Reel 4 Act 2 and im at a part where I have to collect 3 objects (A sword, Swell, and mirror I think) and hit switchs for the rooms to move around. Well I keep making it to where I get the sword. But there are 3 or 4 Ninja Robots in the same room and they always kick my tail. So I have a deep hatedrige for them right now.)

Anyway what enemies just rub you the wrong way?

- The little midgets that jump on you in Kung Fu (NES)
- Any number of annoying little critters in any of the Mega Man games (like the springy things in Mega Man 2)
- Hawks in Ninja Gaiden (NES) and pretty much anything else that regenerates if you move away

Barbarianoutkast85

I have to agree with enemies that regenerate once you move away from the screen. That is uber-annoying, especailly if its an enemy that is tough to begin with.

-Hammer Brothers in the early Mario games (if you don't have a fire flower)
-Hawks/Eagles in Ninja Gaiden (largely due to the amount of life they sap)
-Abobo in the original Gameboy version of Double Dragon (can not be stopped by a jumpkick)
-Blue Wizzrobes in Legend of Zelda
-Blue Ironknuckles in Zelda II: Adventure of Link
-All types of Wyverns in Dragon Warrior
-Those transvestites in Final Fight who jump out of Haggar's reach only to land a kick in his head

The Ironknuckles in the final castle in Zelda II.

Chaossorc, Dark Rider, De-elm-Lars from Phantasy Star IV.

Almost all of the enemies in Popful Mail, but Sven T. Uncommon stands out.

Malboro in all the Final fantasy games.

Skeletons, Death, and Hunchbacks in Castlevania 1

1. Mike Tyson\Mr. Dream
2. All enemies in Arkanoid
3. The thing flying around in Qix
4. The black balls that appear out of nowhere in Xevious
5. The missile dodging missile in Missile Command.

All of these enemies REALLY piss me off while playing their respective games.

I'd like to add some enemies from Xmen 2: Clone Wars for the Sega Genesis.

Spider Robots: These things fly around, stop near you, and shoot flames.
Flying Guards: They fly and shoot. Enough said.
Blade Guards: They hurl a small blade. Invulnerable when holding it.
Mini-Jaggernauts: The small clones of the big guy either roll at you, or
jump over you. Real pests.

Actualy now that I think about it, Almost EVERY enemy in Xmen 2: Clone Wars is annoying and just makes you want to rip your hair out after playing it a few hours. At least thats the way I remember my Xmen 2 experience.

Medusa Heads #1
Fleaman a honorable mention

And yes, any damn winged fiend that swoops in a funky hard-to-kill fashion

Winged enemies are usually a bitch to kill. Especially in Castlevania and Xmen 2: Clone Wars off the top of my head.

H2O

There are a disproportionate amount of games that use this basic earth element as either an enemy, or as some type of obstacle.

Take "Tale Spin" on the Genesis. I play as one of two anthropomorphic bears and friggin' water coming out a fountain hurts me, why?

Drowning I can understand, but that? No.

Anybody playing as a monkey in TimeSplitters in multiplayer. Die, you damn hard to hit monkey!

Most of the enemies in Magician Lord. Man, that game cheeses me off. I realize I am just not hardcore enough ;)

- Dragon Warrior - Goldman - I want the experience points, not an absurd amount of gold.
- Dragon Warrior 2 - Blizzards - they cast defeat, and Gold Batboons - they cast sacrifice (your entire party dies).
- Dragon Warrior 3 - any variation of Beaks - they just look stupid.
- Super Mario 2 (Lost Levels) - Hammer Bros - Unlike the ones that move back and forth in SMB, some continue to move towards you.
- Of course the hawks and medusa heads
- Super Empire Strikes Back - don't know his name, but he's the largest and roundest bounty hunter in Cloud City - I've lost a lot of lives with his cheapness.
- Ghosts and Goblins - the red demon

I see lots of mention of the birds in Ninja Gaiden.

I, too, hate them. They're usually in the damndest places, particularly near ledges with pits below.

The final boss in Geist.
He turns invisible, regenerates, strikes fast, hits hard. Almost impossible to beat.

Also, the Napolean dude in RE4. Forgot his name, LOL. He pissed me off quite a bit in that game.

Any game in which your character cannot crouch, but the enemies are short enough so that you can't just hit them, so you have to jump over them and try to shoot at them that way. Those enemies are the worst.

Metroid (NES), I'm looking at those little ground crawling guys of yours. :frustrated:
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/673/nesmetroidow9.th.png (http://img509.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nesmetroidow9.png)

edit: And also, any enemies in an RPG that are either (1) way too difficult for the area in which they are found, or (2) enemies that used to be characters of your party, but are somehow much, much, MUCH more powerful as soon as they leave your party. I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy XII, for both of these.

I say this every time a thread like this comes up, and my feelings have/will never change:

Slick and Sam from Q*Bert; especially on the later rounds. Die you little green S***s and I hope its by a new disease they name after you.

Could you imagine those things in MMORPGs? You put 1000 hours into your character and now whenever you load it up you're still falling, forced to delete and start over.

You know, I don't really mind the hawks in Ninja Gaiden, I know all the patterns to avoid them. I don't mind the Medusa heads either, just time it right and walk under them.

Here are the enemies that do piss me off real hard-

1. Those goddamn laser soldiers in the final level of Ninja Turtles (NES)
2. The Ninjas in Arkista's Ring, I can't find a good attack pattern to kill them without getting wasted myself.
3. Guile
4. Those robot skull things on the bridge in Goonies 2, they always take my boomerang and they're hard as hell to avoid!

Evil Otto? :) Ever played Frenzy? If you shoot Evil Otto in the room where Big Otto is, he sends out ten super-speed Evil Ottos which kill you instantly.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned either the Mutants or Baiters from Defender/Stargate.

And the killsats from Asteroids Deluxe. Those thngs that look like snowflakes, and when you hit them they break into several pieces that chase after you like mad.

Ok, most of the obvious have already been stated, but YES, those level 6 TMNT laser assholes suck balls. They kept me for 3 years from beating the game, having made it to level 6 in about 2 days from when I got the game. 3 years, those fuckers stopped me! However, I finally just stocked every turtle up with 99 scrolls in level 3 and destroyed that game. Those laser bastards were no match for my turtle power then.

But anyway, how about that ghost thing in Bubble Bobble that kills you if you take too long?

I also hated the Meteo casting frickin Brontosaurases in FF VI and I can't believe no one has said Tonberrys. Put the lantern down, bitch. I'll cut you.

That was always one area of the game where I knew a turtle was going to die. So I sent in Raphael or Michaelangelo to serve as cannon fodder. No point burning up Donatello or Leonardo in what amounted to a suicide mission.

Not just the Medusa heads in Castlevania, but any enemy that follows a sinusoidal pattern. SO ANNOYING.

Pretty much anything you can't kill.

As in can only avoid.

A lot of things fall into that catagory.

This may be an odd addition, but how about enemies that run away? I know nothing pisses me off more than hunting down a rare monster in an RPG to have it flee the moment I eventually encounter it.

Have any of you played the game "Rise to honor"? If you got to the boiler room scene (Or anywhere past the boiler room SCENE 1,) You will hate the security guards. If you get to the last boss (Assuming he is the last boss) You'll hate him too.

Medusa heads and fleamen are just the tip of the iceberg. I'm so filled with rage with nearly every enemy in the early Zelda and Mertoid games (and every enemy in the newer metroids as well) and CV enemies just piss the hell out of me. So a few to mention

-Nova skeletons in strategical places. Remember inverted castle in SotN. I hate those things with a burning passion.
-Lesser demons. Respawning asses, especially tough to beat if you're less than lvl.40.
-Spiders from CV II. Enough said.
-Altairs from every CV they've been in, especially the first CV. I cannot get past the long scene where the damn birds drop fleamen on you. Never.
-Peeping eyes in AoS and DoS get a honorable mention for their souls sometimes being a pain in the ass to collect. On my first playthrough of DoS, guess who was stuck trying to get the soul for nearly an hour.
-Bubbles from sonic 3. I hate those spiky flying stoners. With a passion.

I swear I could mention more if my memory would work. Been playing too much CV as of late it seems.
