Can anybody recommend some well-done ROM hacks that aren't just the first level of a game filled with profanity? I know there are some out there.

Super Demo World is by far the best SMW hack I've ever seen. It is very difficult, but not so difficult it's unplayable. The Second Reality Project series is also good.

Mario Adventure is a rehash of SMB3 and allows you to have the Kuribo's Shoe anytime. Lots of other great powerups too. Nice!

The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds is a complete hack of A Link to the Past. It's pretty difficult, to the point where I got frustrated, gave up, and never finished it. Apparently the second quest is even harder. Still very worthy of a look if you're a fan of the Zelda series.

Super Metroid Redesign is probably the best SM hack, even though the creator messed around with the game physics just enough to annoy.

If you're into football, Tecmo Super Bowl has updated rosters for recent seasons, along with a classic USFL/WFL roster set.

There are tons of great hacks out there... these are just the major ones that are worth playing.

I've also heard good things about Zelda Outlands (a hack of the first Zelda).

This new Castlevania: Chorus of Mysteries thing sounds darn good too.

I also played through Legend of the Blob Bros (an SMB2 hack) once; it doesn't completely change the way you play the game like some of these other ones do, but it's still quite nicely done.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3: Trilogy is really good if you're a mortal kombat fan. Its a rom hack for the Genesis version of umk3 that adds all the characters from trilogy PLUS all of the variants of characters like mk2 scorpion, mk1 scorpion, ect, and the hidden characters.

I'm working on a hack of Pokemon leaf green where I am replacing all the pokemon with women.

no, seriously.

the zelda parallel worlds is pretty neat, gets better once you actually get a weapon.

Finally someone who understands! ROM hacks don't need profanity, they need more scantly clad women!

I used to conduct business with Challenge Games years ago. I honestly don't know whether or not they are still in existence because of the recent years' crackdowns on piracy.

If you can find it, I recommend their hack of the original Final Fantasy ("Final Fantasy Zero") and "Zelda Outlands."
