View Full Version : Need help with a broken CD-i

I have a Phillips CD-i 220 that I bought broken. The problem seems to be the CD tray; it will open ok, but when it closes, it stops when it is almost in (at the point where the CD tray lifts the laser/motor up to the CD). The motor continues to run, and if you give it a nudge, it goes all the way in. Once everything is in there, the CD doesn't spin, it seems 'tight'. The laser seems to be seeking, but the disc just won't spin. Everything else (video out, controller, etc) seems to work, so maybe this is just some motor or gyro?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! -Joe

Those type of requests normally go here:

into the Tech Forum. This thread may get moved over to that forum, so you don't need to repost it there. Leave it as is and this will get taken care of. Hopefully someone helps you clear this up over there, Joe.

I have a request for CD-i assistance in the Tech forum myself. *hint hint* :)

The CD drives on almost all of the tray loaders are very poorly made, I have owned several and almost all have had problems. The motors go out. I know for a fact that the tray won't close all of the way because the belts get stretched out and aren't strong enough to close it after that. I haven't had any luck finding parts and they aren't worth the cost anyway. If you want my advice I would get rid of it and find the much more reliable 400 series CD-i console, the 470 even has the DV cart included in it.
