View Full Version : Looking into the Future: Zelda Bonus Disc on store shelves?

This is only just a question, there is no fact in this, no rumor, etc. so I'd hate to start one. This is just a question that's been plagueing me. Do you think Nintendo will look at the success of the Bonus Disc and reprint it to be sold on store shelves? The $29.99 price of the greatest hits looks like a good place to start.
I wonder, and Final Fantasy Tactics makes me wonder more. There's no way that game would have sold enough copies to be considered Greatest Hits for Sony, yet they released it later as one...
I wonder if I should go pick up the extra copies of Zelda I saw and hold onto them for trade bait, or if I'll get screwed in the long run, because Nintendo decides to do a wide release of it.

I'm predicting NO.
It's just not like Nintendo to do something like that. The title itself may be considered niche, and though the pre-order giveaway was a great idea it didn't go exactly as planned with some retailers selling the game "on the side". Anything could happen of course but I don't see them looking at this as a money-making opportunity and money is what Nintendo is about.

It boils down to this with Nintendo. They won't, but they should.

No. Nintendo is pretty pissed off at the whol ordeal, they were trying to get as many pre-sells as possible to break records, and the chains didn't do what they were supposed to do. Point and case? The bonus disc was for sael for $15 at my best buy, I bought it and left the store, NOWHERE AND NOONE told me that I was pre-ordering Zelda WW, If I hadn't known, I wouldn't have gone back with my receipt. I HONESTLY BET that there were more pre-orders than sales on release day (and 2-3 days afterwards)

Here are the facts, straight from the horses mouth.
Remember how Wal Mart didn't have the Zelda bonus disc deal? Well apparantly Wal Mart is an ass when it comes to having the same deal as everyone else (they want special treatment), and didn't participate because they were being pissy. Now they are being whiny that they didn't get to make a boatload of money like everyone else, and so Nintendo has caved and WalMart got their special deal.
Starting this month or next, there is going to be a WalMart exclusive bundle pak which has a gamecube, Zelda:WW, and the ZOoT/MQ bonus disc packed in. Dunno the retail cost yet, and I'm not sure if this has been officially announced yet, so you didn't hear that from me ;)

I don't think they'll reprint it, myself...I'm pretty sure they were just going for a simple bonus deal. Between the people that preordered it and the people who bought it for the n64, I'm not sure that there's as big a market for the bonus disc to warrant a reprint.

It doesn't seem like something Nintendo will do, so I voted no

hey! where did you see more bonus discs at? i called nintendo customer service on monday (i wrote them a nice long e-mail, and i got a personal response back, which led to a said phone call), and was told that they have NO plans to re-release the games in the future, near or far. i got s-c-r-e-w-e-d out of my disc thanks to some jerk clerk at toys-r-us (long story), so i'm in need of one.
nintendo has loads of them , but you have to order the game, a year of nintendo power, and the guide. now, that $60 is a great deal, but i really don't need two copies of the game, don't wanna run around looking for a buyer for the extra game and guide (i'm not lazy, just too goddamn busy, lol), and i DEFINITELY don't want a year of nintendo power at my doorstep, lol... ;)

"when women wonder the world moves*." well, you have to realize two things:
sony decided sometime ago that greatest hits doesn't mean million seller. the amount varies from a few hundred thousand to a million units moved in order to qualify. i dunno what the initial run on fft was, but it's tough to find sealed ones, so it's assumed that those copies are pretty much all sold.
also, it's probably cheaper to repress a game as a GH (one ink color on the disc saves a load of loot)... :D
*i forgot who said that, but i think it was me- am i not a genius? LOL

You're spot-on about the cheaper costs for one-color discs, as we discovered at Working Designs during the runs of the multi-disc, full-color Lunar 1 and Lunar 2. (The Lunar 1 discs came out with kind of a greenish tint, but we certainly couldn't afford to correct the problem.)

I just went to EB today and they had about 6 sitting on their shelf priced for $14.99, it looked like they were all used. But still 6? thats a lot considering how rare they are supposed to be O_O

Erm....I'll check my "secret spot" today and see if they are still there....I have to make a stop anyhow....Maybe if they are we can make a trade for "funky Japanese PS2 board game" if you still have it.

That's kinda odd that you say Wal Mart didn't participate since all three Wal Mart's by me had multiple shipments of the bonus disc which were put out for $9.99 and scanned as a pre-sale. I got mine there about three weeks before WW shipped. I don't doubt a Wal Mart bundle at all, since similar bundles have been done over the years with Wal Mart, Toys R Us and Target.

ok i'll be the ass here and say that I don't mind if they flood the market with more copies of the Bonus disk as long as all future printings are labeled "2nd printing" (or like) so the value of my original, still-sealed copy doesn't diminish. :P

Hm, that is odd. Could be that Wal Marts work on a franchise/independant owner situation, with franchises being told NO from the head office, and independantly owned Wal Marts choosing to participate. Has anyone else seen wal marts in they're areas selling the discs?

it's a lot for one shop, but consider this: not everyone who has the bonus discs cares if they're "rare", they just wanted to play the game. and not everyone keeps a game once they're done with it (horrors!). so off to the shop it goes in trade for other stuff. i KNOW they're not fetching a lot in credit at chain shops simply because well, it's supposed to be a FREE game, lol.
this could also turn out to be one of those "pack-in" value droppers, where you have so many that are turned in after a period of time that the value drops dramatically (except to folks who want sealed ones, and won't touch a used one)... :hmm:

Well, it was Kmart, and they didn't have any today....(dammit, I knew I should have picked up those two last week...)
